We are seeking an experienced HVAC Lead to join our Facilities Management team. This position will play a pivotal role in overseeing HVAC operations, including installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, ensuring optimal performance and comfort across our campus/facilities.
Position Overview: The HVAC Lead will oversee and manage HVAC projects and team members while ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of HVAC systems. The role requires technical expertise in HVAC systems, leadership skills to guide a team of technicians, and the ability to manage complex installations and repairs. The HVAC Lead will be responsible for ensuring compliance with safety codes, energy efficiency goals, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor HVAC technicians and staff, ensuring that they perform high-quality work in compliance with safety standards and regulations.
System Management: Oversee the operation, repair, and maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, ensuring optimal system performance and energy efficiency.
Project Oversight: Lead the installation, upgrade, and replacement of HVAC systems, coordinating scheduling, resources, and personnel to ensure timely and efficient completion.
Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex HVAC issues, including electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant system failures, to minimize downtime and disruptions.
Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure HVAC systems operate efficiently and reduce the likelihood of system failures.
System Monitoring: Use building automation systems (BAS) to monitor HVAC system performance, adjust settings, and ensure environmental control systems meet building needs.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure HVAC work is performed in compliance with local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and safety standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
Reporting: Maintain detailed records of all HVAC maintenance, repairs, and replacements, including system performance reports, work orders, and inventory tracking.
Energy Efficiency: Collaborate with the facilities management team to implement energy-saving initiatives and ensure systems are running at maximum efficiency to reduce operating costs.
Collaboration: Work closely with other departments and contractors, as needed, to support special projects, seasonal changes, and any other initiatives requiring HVAC expertise.
Customer Service: Communicate effectively with building occupants to address HVAC-related concerns and ensure a comfortable working environment.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in HVAC or a related field (e.g., EPA Section 608 Certification).
At least 5 years of experience in HVAC systems maintenance, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including heating, cooling, air filtration, ventilation, and refrigeration.
Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals for HVAC systems.
Hands-on experience with HVAC troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs.
Ability to operate, calibrate, and maintain building automation systems (BAS).
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate service vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
HVAC Contractor's License or equivalent certifications.
Knowledge of energy management and sustainability practices in HVAC operations.
Experience with automated or digital HVAC control systems.
Ability to manage a team effectively and provide guidance in high-pressure situations.
Prior experience in a large institutional or commercial facility.
Working Conditions:
Work may involve physical labor, including lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
Availability for on-call duties during evenings, weekends, or emergencies as needed.
Occasional work in high or low-temperature environments, requiring proper safety measures and personal protective equipment (PPE).
