Abode, one of the largest and effective nonprofits working to end homelessness in the Bay Area, is seeking a Vice President of Talent and Culture.
About Abode: Founded as a small, shelter-based organization almost 36 years ago, Abode Services has grown into one of the largest and most impactful providers of housing and services in the Bay Area. Our mission is to end homelessness by assisting low-income, unhoused people, including those with special needs, to secure stable, supportive housing and to be advocates for the removal of the causes of homelessness. We are a Housing First agency, which means that all our programs are geared toward connecting people as quickly as possible to permanent housing, minimizing, or eliminating barriers to care, and providing non-judgmental and compassionate services to ensure that even the most vulnerable households can access housing and services. With over 700 employees, Abode currently provides services in eight bay area counties: Alameda, Napa, Solano, Sonoma, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz.
A Day in the Life:
The Vice President of Talent & Culture (VPTC) provides executive-level leadership and guidance to the Human Resources, Training, and Quality Improvement departments including the Lived Experience Advisory Board (LEAB). The VPTC is responsible for overseeing initiatives and resources that enhance, support, and sustain a collaborative and high-performance culture, while supporting the agency goals. The VPTC is responsible for driving the company’s cultural values, retention, employee engagement, performance management, career development, function efficiency and effectiveness.
- Oversee the human resources division leading the alignment and strategy of every human resource function including workforce development, recruitment, benefits, HRIS systems, and legal matters.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations and maintains knowledge of best practices.
- Ensure that the agency's goals and the culture are continuously aligned.
- Recommend and implement initiatives and talent programs to remove barriers and drive agency results.
- Oversee training and development strategies and implementation.
- Oversee Quality Improvement strategies and implementation.
- Ensure DEI integration with workforce development, training, and quality improvement including agency wide influence.
- Play a high-level role in supporting employee relations.
- Oversee legal and regulatory claims process.
- Advise executive team and senior leadership on complicated, sensitive, and high-risk employment matters.

You proudly possess:
- A minimum of 10 years in HR management, SPHR or PHR certification required.
- 5 years in senior leadership experience.
- 3 years’ experience with DEI leadership and culture development.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Reliable transportation, valid and current California Driver’s License, auto insurance, and a clean DMV record required.
- Exposure to non-profit (preferred)
- Knowledge of and implementation experience of HRBP models (preferred)
- Excellent coalition building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; a persuasive negotiator with the ability to achieve resolutions in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Outstanding presentation and communication skills and the experience to be a spokesperson, and relationship builder.
- Strong commitment to the professional development of staff; successful track record of recruiting and retaining a diverse team.
