The Reporting & BI Developer will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on various reporting visualization solutions (including Tableau and PowerBI), create meaningful dashboards/reports, and provide insights to complex healthcare systems. This person will will be a champion of data and eager to roll-up his/her sleeves to build critical reporting tools. With a passion for creating technical solutions matched with a proficiency in reporting analysis, you will make a tangible impact within our emerging growth organization. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive.  Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.

  • Report/Dashboard Development
    1. Design, develop, document, and maintain advanced reporting, analytics, and other business intelligence (BI) solutions to provide key insights to clients and internal stakeholders (e.g., clinical, operational, financial, and other teams as needed), using best practices for visualizations and data storytelling.
    2. Maintain, update, and improve existing reports based on changing business needs and system upgrades.
  • System Knowledge
    1. Demonstrate expertise in company visualization and data management systems including Tableau and Power BI, as well as other solutions as needed for company growth. Build and optimize data models within Tableau, ensuring high performance and scalability for large datasets.
    2. Provide training and support to end users on Tableau and Power BI, ensuring they can independently access and use reports and dashboards, as appropriate.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration 
    1. Work with the Data Engineering and Product teams to integrate Tableau to various data sources, ensure data accuracy, and perform data transformations as needed. 
    2. Translate business requirements into technical solutions by collaborating with stakeholders, understanding their needs, and transforming data into actionable insights. 
  • Analytics and Data Design
    1. Perform and document data analysis, data validation, and data mapping/design. 
    2. Create complex calculated fields, parameters, and data aggregations in Tableau to support analytical needs. 
    3. Utilize SQL and database query tools to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into Tableau and/or Power BI environments.
    4. Create tools to store data within the organization.
  • Support Data Governance
    1. Collaborate with data engineering and IT teams to ensure data governance, integrity, and security within the business intelligence environment.
    2. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, and healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA) in all reporting and data management activities. 
  • Continuous Improvement
    1. Review and improve existing systems, collaborating with teams to integrate new systems and implement best practices.
    2. Troubleshoot data-related issues and fine-tune Tableau dashboards and reports to improve user experience. Conduct unit tests and develop database queries to analyze the effects and troubleshoot issues.
    3. Recommend data visualization approaches, keeping the business end user in mind and always working towards the simplest solution, easily digestible by a layperson.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Tableau development and using other BI tools (Power BI, SSRS, etc.) including dashboard creation, data modeling, and advanced visualizations
  • 3 years’ experience working with large, complex datasets 
  • 3 years’ experience working in healthcare analytics or in a healthcare-related environment (e.g., clinical, operational, or financial reporting).

 

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in developing, maintaining and managing Tableau driven dashboards & analytics and working knowledge of Tableau administration/architecture.
  • A solid understanding of SQL, relational databases, and normalization of data. 
  • Specialized understanding of data engineering, ETL processes, and how to manage data flows into Tableau.
  • Proven applied analytic tools experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets. Use standard, customized, and complex data analytics tools. 
  • Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical details into simple, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Team and company-focused attitude to effectively contribute to the accomplishment of work unit goals, objectives, and activities. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Power BI development, including report creation and Power Query.
  • Familiarity with DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) and Power BI’s ecosystem (Gateways, Power BI Service).
  • Experience with healthcare data models (e.g., HL7, ICD, CPT codes) and familiarity with EMR/EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
  • Experience with Python, R, or other scripting languages for data analysis.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms such as AWS Redshift, Azure SQL, or Snowflake.

Travel as needed to support company and customer initiatives. Work on Site in our St Paul office may be required and  ABOUT reserves the right to change the location of the role at any time.

 

This role may involve work on federal government contracts that require additional federal background investigations, training, and federal badging. As such, you will may required to submit personal information to the government and be fingerprinted and photographed at your local Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
