Job Title: Van/Box Truck Driver – Food Rescue Route Driver
Location: Above and Beyond Free Food Pantry - 817 S. Pulaski, Chicago, IL 60624
Job Type: Full-Time, 5-6 Days per Week
Job Overview:
Above and Beyond Free Food Pantry is seeking a reliable and dedicated Van/Box Truck Driver to join our team. The driver will be responsible for operating a refrigerated van and a 15’ refrigerated box truck to transport food, supplies, and donations between the food pantry, partner agencies, and other donation sites. This is a full-time position requiring flexibility in start and end times, with shifts typically beginning at 7:00 AM, Monday through Saturday.
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, able to build and maintain relationships with partners, and represent our organization in a professional manner. The role also involves physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards while handling food items.
Key Responsibilities:
● Safely drive a refrigerated van and 15’ refrigerated box truck to transport food and supplies to and from various locations.
● Load and unload items securely, ensuring proper storage and organization of goods.
● Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in proper working condition.
● Maintain accurate records of deliveries, pick-ups, and mileage.
● Ensure food safety by adhering to safety and sanitation standards during transport.
● Build and maintain positive relationships with pantry partners and donors, ensuring excellent customer service.
● Represent Above and Beyond Free Food Pantry in a professional and courteous manner during all interactions.
● Assist with inventory management, food sorting, and organizing pantry storage as needed.
● Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and organizational policies at all times.
● Complete other duties as required to support the pantry’s mission.
Qualifications:
● Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
● Minimum 3 years of proven driving experience driving a van and box truck.
● Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with partners and donors.
● Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to manage time effectively.
● Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to varying shift schedules. Majority of the driving is between 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
● Commitment to the mission of the food pantry and its impact on the community.
● Successful candidates will be subject to random drug testing.
Work Environment:
● This position will involve working in varying weather conditions.
● Heavy lifting and physical labor required.
● Flexible schedule with shifts starting at 7:00 AM, Monday through Saturday.
