What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer: SMART Recovery's Family and Friends Host position at Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center?
We are a 501C3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals who seek recovery from alcohol and drugs at no charge whatsoever. We're free.
,
Based on SMART Recovery's Family and Friends (www.smartrecovery.org/family) the therapists at Above and Beyond offer a daily (Monday through Friday) virtual, safe, and anonymous meeting that teaches attendees the many ways in which they can support and handle their loved one with substance use disorder.
We're seeking a group host who can help us to develop a consistent, non-judgemental culture in each of these groups. It will be an assisting position, being present online from noon to one, on any weekday or just one, and learning about the many evidence-based SMART Tools as they relate to relationships.
Utilizing (and offering) the SMART Family and Friends Handbook, we teach friends and family how to use effective, non-confrontational support for a loved one with Substance Use Disorder using positive communication skills and tools, which have been proven to be more successful than harsh interventions or complete detachment.
SMART's self-empowering program uses tools based on cognitive therapy to help you level out your emotional roller coaster and learn better ways of dealing with your unique situation. Our mutual desire is that your loved one will take on the choice to pursue their own recovery and that you will learn ways of improving your life at the same time.
However, things do not always go the way we hope they do, in which case SMART F & F offers alternative choices you can make, via your way of thinking about the situation that you find yourself in, so that you can best help yourself, your family members, and your loved one(s).
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by VolunteerMatch, in partnership with LinkedIn for Good.
