Job Summary

The Department of English and Communication at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of English, to be stationed at ABAC¿s Bainbridge instructional site.

The position is a 10-month, tenure-track, full-time faculty position with appointment beginning August 1, 2025. The successful candidate will hold a Doctoral degree in English or a related field, with appropriate credentials to teach ENGL 1101 Composition I, ENGL 1102 Composition II, and literature courses. The position is open until filled.

Located in the heart of Southwest Georgia, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College¿s Bainbridge instructional site includes 173 acres of oak and pine trees close to the beautiful Flint River. Students who attend classes in Bainbridge are given the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business, Criminal Justice, History and Government, and Nursing without traveling to a different location. Students can also earn the Associate of Science in Core Curriculum (General Studies pathway) and the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN leading to the RN) at this site. Bainbridge students can presently complete the first two years of the B.S. programs in Biology and Writing and Communication at Bainbridge before traveling to ABAC Tifton for the final two years.

This position will be stationed in Bainbridge, but travel to various instructional sites will be expected of the incumbent. The position is intended to serve ABAC¿s dual enrollment student population, in addition to our traditional students both at the Bainbridge site and at ABAC¿s main campus in Tifton, as needed. Thus, the incumbent¿s teaching assignments will involve traveling to and offering courses at regional high schools and/or at both ABAC campus locations.

The Department of English and Communication offers a Writing and Communication B.S. degree, a Certificate in Digital Media and Professional Communication, and multiple courses in support of ABAC¿s IMPACTS Core Curriculum. The Department also supports a dynamic assortment of student media opportunities, including the Stallion newspaper, Stallion TV, radio station WPLH, literary magazines Pegasus and Adroit, and Horseman Press, the only student-staffed teaching press of its kind in Georgia.

The incumbent¿s teaching load will consist primarily of composition and literature courses in support of the IMPACTS Core Curriculum, but they will also have the opportunity to offer courses in support of the Writing and Communication B.S. degree. The successful candidate is expected to be adept at the use of various instructional technologies. The courses to be offered may include both traditional in-class/on-ground courses, as well as hybrid or online offerings.

Previous college teaching experience is preferred, as is experience and willingness to work with dual-enrolled high-school-aged college students. The ability/willingness to travel to various ABAC instructional sites to offer courses thereat is required. Preference will be given to candidates who are dual-credentialed and able to also offer courses in Communication as needed.
