About The Department
This position is within the Active Ownership function within Sustainable Investment and reports to a UK based Active Ownership Director, within the broader Sustainable Investment team of circa 28 FTE globally.
The Active Ownership function is responsible for setting the house view on corporate governance, voting standards and active ownership matters, ensuring voting is conducted in line with the house and investment view. The team leads on engagement strategy across investment teams on sustainable investment matters and themes.
About The Role
As the Senior Sustainable Investment Manager you will get the opportunity to provide investment insight to support the investment case on sustainable investment matters to our investors. The primary purpose of your role will be to lead on Net Zero climate engagement and engagement of investee companies, voting activities, and investment policy and frameworks within the Americas region.
This role is client and external facing and there will be a requirement to balance both external profile raising and day to day engagement requirements.

Key responsibilities
- Conduct thematic engagement on climate change and corporate governance for abrdn and including on behalf of clients
- Participate and help lead on collaborative engagements that abrdn is a signatory of including Climate Action 100
- Lead engagement on ESG matters with abrdn investee companies within the US.
- Support with carrying out voting activities at annual general meetings of investee companies
- Manage feedback from stakeholders to help inform areas of focus and engagement as well as future shaping of strategies and products.
- Participate, as required, in client and prospective meetings and pitches in relation to engagement and broader sustainable investment activities, as required.
- Participate, as required, in external speaking opportunities and act as an ambassador for abrdn’s engagement activities in the US.
- Be an active member of the broader Sustainable Investment team, the Americas Sustainability Institute, and the Americas team
- Experienced in sustainable investment and engagement
- Experience of engaging with investee companies on climate change
- Experience of engaging with investee companies on governance, sustainability, and financials.
- Strong analytical and excel skills.
- Awareness of ESG industry trends, with a particular focus on US developments
- Eager to learn about sustainability policies.
- Proficient in presentations and excel skills.
