Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager and direction of the Lab Director, the Phlebotomist/Laboratory Assistant is responsible for collecting and processing specimens for testing in the clinical laboratory to assist the medical staff in assessing, diagnosing and treating disease or impairment of health of patients utilizing the services of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe Health Authority, Inc.
Provide Phlebotomy services; collecting adequate and correct specimens by venipuncture or capillary stick on adults, children, and/or infants.
Follow department policies to correctly identify the patient verifying the date of birth and name before collections of any specimen for the lab and label the specimens correctly with either the labels with patient information or hand written names with date, time, and initial and will process specimens correctly according to testing requirements.
Collects specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
Accessions, labels and packages specimens for outside testing facilities.
Notifies supervisor of unresolved requisition errors or specimen integrity problems.
Actively participates in the laboratory’s quality control and quality assurance activities.
Participates as an active member of the laboratory staff to improve the overall operation and efficiency of the laboratory; promotes teamwork and excellence among co-workers.
Follow HIPPA guidelines for maintaining confidentiality with all patient related information.
Use and understand the HIM also known as eClinicalWorks, eCW, for ordering tests, resulting tests and printing patient results as needed for the lab.
Use and understand the Clinic’s HER system to obtain the laboratory orders from the providers. Be able to schedule lab only appointments if needed.
Perform and release CLIA waived testing following Policy and Procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalency.
Certified Phlebotomy certificate or MA certificate.
Two years lab experience.
Must possess a valid OK Driver’s License
Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
