General Description



The Strategic Prevention Framework-Partnership for Success Grant Lead Epidemiologist and Coordination Specialist will conduct substance abuse prevention outreach specifically, focused on underage drinking, non-medical use of prescription drugs and promoting mental health among Native American youth ages 9-20. They will also be responsible for data planning, collection, organization, analysis, and reporting to support SPF project goals and objectives. This information includes epidemiological analysis based on vital records, clinical data; survey data results, special studies, and performance of other related duties as required.


Responsibilities & Duties



  • Plan and execute outreach activities and events in accordance with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Ensuring Hope Grant.
  • Must be able to design, create, and program surveys as well as collect, analyze, store, and present data.
  • Conduct community assessments for data collection and documentation through surveys, listening sessions, and observation.
  • Coordinate, conduct, and evaluate evidence-based and culturally competent prevention activities and community outreach.
  • Explore local prevention resources and develop community resource guide.
  • Use data to assist SPF team to monitor progress, and seek ways to improve the project as it matures
  • Coordinate the development, production, ordering, and dissemination of educational materials and promotional items.
  • Collaborate with Project Director on writing and submitting reports to funding agency (SAMHSA)
  • Providing public health/substance use education through reports, speeches and presentations
  • Finding, vetting, and summarizing related third party data that relates to grant obligations and objectives.
  • Driving to off-site locations to perform job duties as needed
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; presentation skills; decision making and time management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; leadership and team building skills
  • Ability to build positive work relationships with internal and external customers
  • Ability to interact professionally with the public; and maintain confidentiality
  • Help develop the capacity for tribes and tribal organization to support responses to the tribal public health crises
  • Participate in and help facilitate various culturally competent trainings, implement and facilitate the use of culturally appropriate best practices within Tribal communities
  • Must adhere to Absentee Shawnee Tribe Personnel Policies and Drug and Alcohol Policies
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications



Education and Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Public Health or related field with emphasis (i.e., completion of at least 25 graduate hours in Epidemiology) in Biostatistics and/or Epidemiology or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience working with Native Americans and disadvantaged populations strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in public speaking, group facilitation, training, and prevention program development.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills; be able to express ideas and facts clearly and concisely in written/oral form.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test for pre-employment for the Tribe
  • Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
  • Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity.
  • Frequent lifting (up to 15 lbs)
  • Occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs)
