We are currently seeking highly qualified applicants to work at the US Air Force Test Pilot School, specifically supporting development and delivery of a Test and Evaluation training course for US Air Force and Space Force personnel including aircrew, operators and engineers. This yearlong, in-residence course is offered two times each year with dedicated facilities onboard Edwards AFB.
ABSI supports these classes with a mixture of primarily on-site personnel, some part time subject matter experts, and virtual learning as needed. Instructors should have operational and/or Test and Evaluation experience with relevant DoD systems. The Flight Sciences instructor will work on-site at Edwards AFB, directly supporting the Flight Sciences division of USAF Test Pilot School. This includes coordinating with other USAF TPS divisions, developing, and delivering classroom and/or laboratory/flight hands on exercises to meet course learning objectives.
We are seeking a highly skilled Flight Sciences Instructor with DoD Test and Evaluation (T&E) experience to support the development and delivery of advanced instructional courses. The ideal candidate will have flight test experience and expertise in disciplines such as aerodynamics, performance, stability and control, propulsion, and aircraft systems integration. The candidate should be familiar with flight test techniques used to evaluate performance and handling qualities of modern aircraft. The instructor will play a critical role in training DoD personnel to plan and execute flight test, then conduct data analysis and report results.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Flight Sciences Instructor will be responsible for:
- Provide subject matter expertise and analysis in flight sciences disciplines such as aerodynamics, propulsion, stability & control, and performance testing to develop and deliver classroom instruction and guide practical exercises in support of Space Test curriculum
- Collaborate with curriculum developers to update and refine the flight sciences curriculum, ensuring alignment with evolving test and evaluation methodologies
- Develop and administer evaluations to assess student proficiency, identify areas for improvement, and provide constructive feedback
- Provide hands-on training in lab, control room and/or flight environments
- Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in engineering or related technical field with at least 8 years of experience in flight test and evaluation.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and application of flight test techniques and procedures
- Thorough knowledge of DoD Test and Evaluation procedures on a major acquisition program
- Proven expertise in Flight Sciences
- Must be willing to work full time, on site at Edwards Air Force Base
- Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD in Aeronautical Engineering or related field desired
- Active Top Secret security clearance highly desired
- Test Pilot School graduate (USAF, USN, Empire, or EPNER) highly desired
- Experience delivering instruction to adult learners in an academic environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based collaborative resources such as SharePoint and Microsoft Teams
