The Journeyman Computer Scientist will provide analytic, systems integration, and data engineering support for developmental test and evaluation (DT&E) of communications and mission systems on the E-6B and C-130J platforms. This position supports data analysis, system interoperability, cybersecurity evaluation, and test planning within a classified environment. The ideal candidate will have experience with systems administration, networked system analysis, software tool development, and data lifecycle management in a Naval aviation test environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Journeyman Computer Scientist will:
- Analyze complex data processing challenges and recommend innovative solutions supporting integrated developmental and operational test environments.
- Support cybersecurity and cyber survivability analysis for airborne communication and mission systems across laboratory, ground, and flight test events.
- Implement, upgrade, and monitor information assurance and security measures for test data infrastructure.
- Review computer system capabilities, constraints, and workflows to optimize system architecture for test planning and execution.
- Assist in the development of software tools and scripts for test automation, data analysis, and visualization of test results.
- Evaluate system-level performance and data integrity across VLF and network-centric communication systems.
- Integrate and manage test data from multiple sources to support test reporting, reliability analysis, and systems certification.
- Participate in technical meetings and working groups to define test approaches, metrics, and data requirements.
- Use Government test toolsets (e.g., iTEMS suite: iTrack, iReport, iTEST) to support test documentation and scheduling.
- Support development of TEMP Part IV documentation and other resource summaries related to digital systems and tools.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field for a scientist with at least 3 years of professional relevant experience in software systems, data management, or IT systems engineering.
- ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:
- A related field Master's degree may be substituted for 2 years of work experience.
- ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:
- Proficiency with data analysis and programming tools (e.g. MATLAB), software version control, and Windows-based environments.
- Demonstrated experience integrating and managing data across secure systems.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and DoD Information Assurance (IA) practices.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two or more years of direct NAVAIR or NAWCAD experience.
- Experience working within DoD classified networks and secure test environments.
- Knowledge of mission systems and communications architectures on Navy aircraft (E-6B, C-130, or similar platforms).
- Understanding of DoD acquisition lifecycle, DT&E processes, and test data management frameworks.
- Experience supporting systems integration, systems administration, and software tool development in T&E environments.
