The Journeyman-level Flight Test Engineer will support the Developmental Test and Evaluation (DT&E) of the P-8A’s acoustic mission systems as part of the Integrated Test Team (ITT). This role involves supporting lab, ground, and flight test of underwater acoustic systems and associated mission systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Journeyman Flight Test Engineer will:
- Support the design, development, planning, and execution of DT&E for acoustic mission systems on the P-8A aircraft.
- Participate in test events (including flights), monitor data collection, and analyze system behavior and performance.
- Develop and review test plans, test reports, deficiency reports, and other technical documentation in accordance with DoD T&E processes.
- Interface with flight test engineers, software developers, systems engineers, and test aircrew to assess system-level effectiveness and suitability.
- Provide technical support in the areas of sensor signal processing, acoustic data analysis, and mission system integration.
- Support flight test scenario planning and real-time data capture and reduction using specialized Government or contractor toolsets.
- Assist in analyzing mission system performance across multiple test configurations and recommend improvements or risk mitigations.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation of test configurations, test outcomes, and historical data.
- Apply sound engineering or analytical principles to ensure interoperability of mission systems and conformance to technical requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field for a scientist with at least 3 years of relevant experience in developmental test, mission systems analysis, or flight test engineering.
- ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:
- A related field Master's degree may be substituted for 2 years of work experience.
- ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:
- Proficiency in MS Office and other analytical toolsets (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a classified, fast-paced, mission-oriented environment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior support to NAVAIR, NAWCAD, or DoD acquisition programs.
- Direct experience with acoustic warfare systems, sonobuoy operations, or P-8A platform.
- Prior aircrew, acoustic operator, or mission operator experience highly desired.
- Familiarity with TEMP development, test resource planning, and Navy acquisition documentation.
- Knowledge of underwater acoustics theory, digital signal processing, and airborne sensor integration.
