Absoute Staffing is searching for a Payroll Specialist on behalf of our client.
Location: Remote. Must be within 1 hour of Linthicum Heights, MD for training purposes and quarterly meetings.
Position Type: Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $23/Hour (Eligible for Overtime & Service Date Bonuses)

Position Summary
The Payroll Specialist will work within the payroll team to ensure accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll processing for participant employees. This role involves open communication with program stakeholders, adherence to internal policies and procedures, and the ability to manage multiple demands and deadlines effectively.
Essential Responsibilities
- Process payroll activities, including entering timecards, reconciling participant budgets, reviewing errors, and analyzing data.
- Communicate program requirements and policies to employees, employers, and support teams.
- Provide timely and professional responses to inquiries from employees, employers, and planning teams.
- Collaborate with Accounts Payable, Financial Reporting, Stakeholder Relations, and Outreach teams.
- Support and implement automation and accuracy-improving processes.
Other Responsibilities
- Maintain an understanding of self-direction and fiscal management services.
- Assist with general operations of Self-Directed Services as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; BS in business or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of payroll experience; knowledge of payroll software is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Professional communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet reporting and processing deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and other HR/payroll technology tools.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Physical & Mental Requirements
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear (both in person and via telephone).
- Use hands to operate office equipment and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required, including close and distance vision.
- Ability to attend meetings and events in Maryland as required.
Mental Demands:
- Read and interpret data, analyze problems, and apply solutions.
- Work under deadlines with frequent interruptions.
- Interact with employees, self-directed participants, and other stakeholders.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Remote position, working from home or an office-like setting.
- Regular use of office equipment (VoIP, printer, scanner, computer).
- Full-time schedule, Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm.
- Required to attend quarterly in-person team meetings and other in-person training sessions.
- Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening.

Paid Time Off & Holidays
- 12 paid holidays per year.
- PTO accrual based on years of service:
- Less than 1 year: 0.05 per hour worked.
- 1-3 years: 0.07 per hour worked.
- 4-5 years: 0.09 per hour worked.
- More than 5 years: 0.10 per hour worked.
- Annual carryover max: 120 hours (no advanced leave permitted).
