What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor/Advocate position at Abuse & Rape Crisis Center?
Overview
Are you passionate about supporting survivors and making an impact? As a Counselor Advocate, you will provide essential services to victims and their loved ones facing sexual and domestic violence, bullying, child abuse, elder abuse, hate crimes, and human trafficking.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position (38 hours per week) reporting to the Direct Services Supervisor/ Volunteer Coordinator.
You will work closely with a dedicated team to empower, advocate, and support those in need.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Services
- Provide individual crisis counseling, follow-up counseling, group counseling, information, and referrals
- Offer criminal justice support/advocacy, emergency financial assistance, legal advocacy, personal advocacy, and Victims Compensation Assistance
- Deliver mobile services and accompaniment, including off-site counseling, advocacy, and support in civil/criminal legal systems and medical systems
- Respond to hotline and on-call services as needed to ensure continuous support for clients
General Duties
- Maintain accurate records and meet required deadlines
- Engage in systems advocacy to support survivor rights and access to resources
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to team collaboration
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience in a human services field, college education, or relevant training
- Completion of ARCC counselor/advocate training (provided on site)
- Strong organizational, office management, and record-keeping skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of and commitment to victim advocacy and survivor issues
- Basic computer skills
- Required clearances
- Ability to work independently, with strong focus, professionalism, and clear boundaries
- Proven ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and partner agencies
- Familiarity with community resources for high-risk populations

- Do you have at least one year of experience working one on one with persons who have experienced trauma or who have been impacted by interpersonal violence?
- Are you able to provide on-call (after hours) services, between 5 pm - 9 am nights and 9 am - 5 pm on weekends/holidays? On-call may include phone calls or in-person response and is approximately 5-6 shifts a month.
- This position requires the candidate to be within 45 minutes of Towanda, PA, in case of on-call crisis response. Are you located within 45 minutes of Towanda, PA?
