Position Title: Laboratory Technician
Reports to: Quality Manager Division / Dept: Quality Control
Position Characteristics:
Performs initial and final inspection for customer notification. Provides direct and immediate response to daily operation performance. Provides backup support to Quality Assurance Managers functions.
Function Responsibilities:
- Must have a thorough knowledge of and be able to reliably operate all standard laboratory equipment.
- Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of all applicable military and customer specifications for products that Columbus produces.
- Must be able to properly test materials to all customer specifications.
- Monitors adhesion, extrusion, printing operations and conducts process/product audits.
- Be able to perform all test methods and work instructions, when required.
- Must be able to substitute for any other Lab Technician if needed.
- Maintains samples for sample room and obtains product samples as requested.
- Collects data from the various operations and records for process analysis by various methods.
- Assists in insuring the QC laboratory maintains good housekeeping practices.
- Responsibilities of this position, as it directly relates to the finished goods, are to do each task correctly the first time and to achieve the highest level of quality in the goods produced and the service rendered.
- Initiates ideas and develops proposals for improving quality of everything we do as measured by our customers and for reducing costs, in order to make Columbus more competitive in the marketplace.
- Committed to improving the quality of goods and services through the philosophy of “Continuous Process Improvement.”
- Annual training required for Lead lab technician in hazardous waste or spill management, including contingency plan implementation and effective response to hazardous waste emergencies. Either the Plant Engineer or a qualified outside contractor will conduct the training.
- Responsible to follow the procedures and policies that are defined in this facility’s Hazardous Waste Management plans at this facility. Responsible for following the procedures and policies that are defined in this facility’s contingency plan during an emergency or spill of hazardous waste.
- Operates in an efficient manner, maintains awareness of job safety aspects, and applies safe work practices.
- Performs other duties assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager.

Climbing stairs, walking, stooping, bending, eye/hand coordination, pulling, pushing, extended sitting, seeing writing, listening, speaking, grasping, lifting.
Mental Functions:
Comprehending, analyzing, communication, coordinating, composing, reading, calculating, comparing, detecting, sorting, computing.
Working Conditions:
Normally inside with controlled temperature, florescent lighting, office atmosphere.
Skills Required:
Public relations, good verbal and written communication skills, current office equipment, good organizational skills, and good presentation skills.
