The Senior Medical Director provides leadership and direction to the AC Wellness management team. Utilizing a collaborative approach, the Senior Medical Director identifies and implements strategies that enhance patient care, improve our medical practice and optimize opportunities for innovation. The Senior Medical Director also provides direct patient care and supervises a team of Medical Directors in the delivery of high quality, accessible and holistic health care. At AC Wellness there is an emphasis on preventing future disease as well as a confident approach to acute and chronic existing disease. This role ensures clinical quality, with ongoing improvement initiatives and innovations with new methods of care delivery using technology.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide organizational leadership, strategic planning and direction.
- Collaborate with ACW MSO and Apple Wellness to ensure alignment of long term strategy and goals.
- Provide oversight and direction for the development and review of programs, positions, and budgets that impact clinical services.
- Partner with, support and guide designated program director(s), Medical Directors and Head of Operations to ensure ongoing quality and development of assigned organizational focus.
- Provide regular and annual performance feedback according to established processes.
- Meet regularly with medical group leadership to assess clinical performance and quality of AC Wellness programs.
- Identify and select projects and pilots to implement within the medical group. Assign project responsibility and designate medical group staff to participate in related work groups, as appropriate.
- Actively nurture, model and advance the cooperative and teamwork oriented environment AC Wellness strives to promote within the workplace.
- Maintain open communication with providers and medical group leadership to encourage sharing of ideas and concerns.
- Oversee maintenance and updates of standardized procedures to ensure compliance with established regulatory requirements and AC Wellness standards of care.
- Working with Medical Directors and operations leadership team, ensure appropriate medical staffing levels, and identify staffing and recruitment needs.
- Provide general oversight of recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and on-boarding of new medical providers.
- Provide general oversight to medical provider performance evaluations; including regular feedback on provider teamwork and professionalism, and clinical, compliance and regulatory indicators.
- When involved in direct patient care, the Senior Medical Director will continue to perform job functions essential to all medical providers, which include:
- Performs all clinical and administrative duties expected of a medical provider.
- Acts as a patient advocate for employees and family members in times of crisis and is proactive in assisting patients find care both internally in the wellness center and externally for services not offered within the wellness center.
- Focuses on quality of care and the patient experience including timeliness and effective communication.
- Emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, early detection, and on-going healthcare supervision.
- Engages with patients and practices medicine through telemedicine, as needed.
- Documents properly in medical record of each patient the basis for diagnoses made, treatment provided and treatment plan established. Will be EHR proficient.
- Collaborates with team members to develop practice guidelines and to further develop operational workflows in the clinic as it grows.
- Makes appropriate use of available referral and consultative services and of clinical and non-clinical services.
- Protects patients’ right to confidentiality to participate in decisions about his/her care.
- Complies with policies, procedures, and protocols of AC Wellness Medical Group.
- Participates, as requested, in clinical and non-clinical health care protocol and procedures, clinical guidelines, and clinical and non-clinical quality assessment and improvement activities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- 7 years Primary Care experience.
- 4 years medical leadership role.
- Board Certified in either Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- Current Certification in AHA or ARC Basic Life Support for health care providers is required.
- Current DEA and California license.
- Knowledge of standard healthcare practice policies and procedures.
- Comfortable with change and willingness to work in a non-traditional practice model.
- Must be flexible in regard to physician practice models and clinic schedule.
- Ability to work with practice management and EHR software.
- Ability to perform assigned responsibilities with minimum supervision; to maintain quality control standards; to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
