Position Location : The Legacy Management home office or an acac full facility location ( acac West Chester or acac Midlothian)
POSITION SUMMARY :
The acac Manager-in-Training Program offers participants a unique opportunity to gain cross-club and cross-department management and leadership experience in preparation for taking on a management role in a club or at the home office. Managers-in-Training (MITs) will learn (through mentoring, live and virtual training, special assignments and projects, and on-the-job practice and experience) all facets of club operations, including :
- Membership sales and marketing
- Fitness, group exercise, aquatics, events and sports operations
- Childcare operations
- Youth programs and summer camp operations
- Food and beverage operations
- Day spa operations
- Facility housekeeping and maintenance
- Member services
- PREP program
- Human resources
- General and financial management
MITs will have a home base (home office or club) but will also be deployed to a variety of clubs and in a variety of positions to gain valuable experience and to cover for management or key vacancies until replacements are hired and trained. Demonstrated success in the program may lead to a promotion to a management position in an acac property or the home office (as openings become available).
RESPONSIBILITIES – GENERAL :
Follow the training plan jointly developed and agreed upon by your Supervisor, home base GM (if applicable) and you. The Employee Training and Development Manager, VPO, COO and CEO will also have input and provide guidance. Take ownership of assignments, projects, deadlines, training checklists, reporting requirements, self-study and so on.
As a Team Member who will be privy to certain confidential business or HR information, understand the importance of maintaining that confidentiality.Whether in training mode or on a manager coverage assignment, you are a member of your club’s leadership team and will :
Attend management team huddles / meetings and actively participate.Complete the Manager on Duty training and work MOD shifts, if needed.Help plan, promote and execute major club events.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all club policies, hours of operation, programs and services.Provide membership tours and sell memberships when needed; proactively greet prospective members when they are touring with a Membership Advisor.To prepare for and until receiving an assignment to cover a vacant management position in your home club or another club, you will (as specifically outlined on your training plan) :
Cross-train in every department – understand and practice all operational systems and protocols, learn and practice all SOPs, complete departmental onboarding and training checklists, shadow the department manager, work front-line shifts, run the department on the manager’s PTO days, participate in supply ordering and / or inventory management as applicable, participate in strategic planning for revenue generation and expense management, understand the financial drivers for the department, and so on.Meet (live or virtually) with each Legacy Management executive and HR team member to understand their role, their expectations of the club management teams, the support and direction they provide, and the home office resources available to you.Gain a working knowledge of all software platforms used in management of the club : Club Automation, Fitness BI, Campsite, goHappy, Happy Fox, Paylocity, CallRail and SharePoint.Complete all acac online Manager Training courses.Complete the HERO and De-escalation Training courses.Complete the GM Training Checklist.Complete a Facility Walkthrough.Obtain CPR and First Aid certification.Lifeguard certification is a plus, but not mandatory.With the VP of Finance, review departmental annual budgets (as applicable to your assignments) and monthly financial reports to gain a working knowledge of the financial aspect of the business – key metrics, ratios, levers, drivers of success, etc.Other duties or projects as assigned by your Supervisor or the location GM.
RESPONSIBILITIES – WHEN IN CHARGE OF A DEPARTMENT :
You will be designated as the “Interim Manager” for the department, and will be responsible for all facets of leading and managing your team of direct reports :
Recruit, interview, and hire department team members.Onboard and train your team members.Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring for your team members.Develop work schedules based on budget and club needs.Conduct annual performance reviews and communicate wage adjustments to your direct reports.Recognize and reward high performers.Approve and submit bi-weekly payroll; audit team member clock-ins and outs and confirm accuracy.With the GM and HR team (as needed), handle team member concerns or performance / conduct issues.Additional Responsibilities :
Operate your department within your budget parameters. Participate in the budgeting process (when applicable) and monthly financial review process for your department.If a profit center department, drive revenues and control expenses. If a cost department, actively manage all department expenses.Ensure your department fully implements all FiveStar principles and meets all Facility Walkthrough standards.Ensure your department follows all applicable SOPs and club policies.Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS : Travel
Willing and able to travel to any acac location at any time for any length of time (typically a minimum of two weeks and a maximum of three months per assignment) as required by business needs.Skills and Knowledge

College degree preferred, or equivalent skills gained through experience.PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS :
