POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the supervision of the Activities Director, the beautician would be responsible for providing beauty and barber services to the residents. The beautician is guided by technical knowledge of beautician services and the policies regarding the delivery of services to facility residents.
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provided a full range of personal care services, including hair care, manicure services, and hand massages. Hair care services include cutting, shaping, washing, shampooing, and styling.
- Maintained the assigned space for Unisex salon activities in a clean and tidy manner daily.
- Ensures the maintenance of supplies in adequate quantities to meet the needs of the facility's residents.
- Maintenance of all equipment and instruments according to current infection control standards utilized in the performance of duties and responsibilities.
- Provided bedside services to residents as necessary and appropriate.
- Schedules and maintains appointments for services both in the assigned Barber/Beauty shop space as well as at the bedside.
- Styles hair consistent with residents’ requests and preferences.
- Supplies chemicals to achieve permanent, relaxers, and color in a continuously competent manner.
- Promotes a friendly and positive atmosphere in the delivery of beauty parlor services.
- Preserves a safe environment for residents and staff in the Beauty Shop.
- Knows chemicals and processes used in the service.
- Identifies and responds in a timely and sensitive manner to the needs of the residents receiving beauty services.
- Communicate and report to the Activities Director, Nursing department, or medical team any resident's mental, medical, or physical changes.
- Maintains beauty parlor log for residents being serviced.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Licensed by the State of New York in cosmetology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Prior experience as a beautician or barber
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
- Prior experience in a healthcare facility is preferred
