Middle School Math Teacher

JOB DESCRIPTION: La Academia’s Math Teacher will play an essential role in the growth and development of our students and our new Middle School Math program. The Math Teacher will nurture in each student a love of learning to build conceptual understanding and mastery of content topics in alignment with the Delaware State Standards for Mathematics. The Math Teacher will model and engage in La Academia’s commitment to our community, other mission aligned values, and equity minded practices.

REPORTS TO: Director of Middle School

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach Middle School Math classes that align with the Common Core Standards for Math rooted in research-based instructional practices
• Creatively plans learning opportunities that apply areas of science, math, engineering, and technology
• Creatively plan lessons that builds student’s mastery in the areas of numbers, expressions, geometry, & statistics
• Serve as a Middle School advisor for a small group of students, lead advisory curriculum and communicate with families appropriately
• Lead one-two extracurricular activities/clubs, or as needed
• Develop creative, rigorous daily and unit lesson plans following the grade level scope/sequence and pacing guides
• Provide differentiated instruction and required accommodations in the classrooms so students are challenged and supported according to their needs
• Through formative and summative assessments, evaluate all students regularly and communicate with families of student progress
• Complete all required training, goal setting, and other areas of compliance related to professional evaluations
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and school administrative regulation
• Utilize school required platforms as required to perform duties
• Perform other classroom responsibilities and all other duties as assigned and/or stated in our Employee Handbook

• Prioritize life-long learning and be driven to improve their instructional practice to continue their professional and personal development as an educator
• Take a ‘Responsive Classroom’ approach to classroom behavior and promote restorative practices among students as a community member
• Partners constructively with all staff and parents to fulfill our school mission

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Delaware License and Certification in Middle Level Math in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1532 & § 1543
• Successful completion of Praxis II exams
• 2 years of teaching experience (preferred) at the middle school level with a degree in Mathematics or an education related degree Equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant field
• Additional qualifications and/or alternatives as deemed necessary by the Board of Education and Administration
• Must be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday
• Minimum lifting requirements- 50 pounds (with assistance)
• Must be able to use arms and hands without restrictions to accommodate the physical, mobility, and ambulatory needs of students continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday

SALARY & BENEFITS: This is a Full-Time 10-Month position. Salary ranges are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Health, Dental and Vision benefits are included.
