North Idaho College (NIC), recognized as the Best Community College in Idaho by Intelligent.com in 2024, seeks an innovative and experienced leader to serve as Dean of Instruction, Nursing and Health Professions. This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity to shape the strategic direction of health education and oversee a diverse portfolio of high-quality programs preparing students for critical roles in healthcare. Reflecting a committed and effective faculty, NCLEX pass rates range from 94% to 100%.

Located in the stunning lakefront city of Coeur d’Alene, NIC is a dynamic and forward-thinking institution with highly motivated faculty committed to student success, workforce readiness, and community engagement. The college continues to expand its world class facilities, including the recently renovated Meyer Health and Sciences Building and the state-of-the-art Dental Hygiene Clinic in Winton Hall. These spaces house high-tech simulation labs, immersive learning environments, and cutting-edge medical equipment, ensuring NIC students receive hands-on, industry-relevant training. Along with an engaged faculty, the Dean will inherit a motivated and supportive staff, including three dedicated administrative professionals, all intent on bolstering innovative and interdisciplinary approaches.

The next Dean will be a visionary leader who fosters academic excellence, enhances student success, and cultivates meaningful partnerships with healthcare organizations. Collaborating across departments and with industry leaders, this role is instrumental in ensuring NIC’s health programs remain at the forefront of innovation and accreditation standards, while expanding educational access, including distance learning and off-site clinical experiences. 

This position reports to the Provost. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Develops and implements Health Professions and Nursing (HPN) Division policies and procedures in collaboration with the Health Professions and Nursing Directors in response to the mission and educational initiatives of the College. 
  • Supervises the following Health Professions and Nursing programs: Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing, Physical Therapist Assistant, Medical Assistant, Surgical Technology, Dental Hygiene, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiography Technology, and any additional programs developed or expanded in the future.  
  • Facilitates innovative delivery systems to promote educational access in the College service delivery area including distance education, outreach centers and off-site classrooms. 
  • Develops, reviews, and approves contractual agreements with agencies for the College's use of clinical laboratory experience and other related activities. 
  • Approves all curriculum council proposals for the initiation of new programs and courses, or recommendations for curricular changes within the divisions. 
  • Interacts with leaders of public/private sector to develop and promote nursing and other health professions education including, marketing and student recruitment. Assists in developing new and emerging health programs. 
  • Administers programs by establishing and maintaining excellence in educational standards through development, assessment, evaluation, and revision of curriculum. Responsible for the ongoing evaluation of each department’s course and curriculum offerings by seeking input from faculty and students through needs assessments and surveys. 
  • Manages articulation agreements with secondary and post-secondary schools and develops relationships with NIC’s education partners in relation to the College’s mission. 
  • Collaborates with HPN Directors to plan, implement, and maintain continuing education programs that meet certification and licensure requirements and accreditation standards. Implements the standards for graduation of students from all division programs assuring program quality and standards.  
  • Participates in the preparation of the college catalog, the master schedule of classes and registration of students in conjunction with the Health Professions and Nursing Directors, the Office of Instruction, and the Registrar. 
  • Supervises, coaches, and evaluates direct reports. Provides final approval for hiring of faculty and support personnel.  
  • Facilitates conflict resolutions as needed. 
  • Develops and oversees the budgets of all programs in the divisions and supervises the activities of staff in performing functions in response to purchasing, payroll, inventory and all budgetary initiatives. 
  • Facilitates program operations within the division and collaborates across departments to enhance the overall college experience. 
  • Represents the college at the local, regional, state and national levels traveling to meetings, workshops and conferences as necessary. 
  • Coordinates program planning and budgeting activities with the Dean of Instruction, Workforce Education as dictated by the State Division of Professional/Technical Education. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 
  • Knowledge of health professions, including those offered by NIC 
  • Knowledge of industry standards, future directions, accrediting bodies and standards  
  • Strong supervisory and team leadership skills 
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills  
  • Knowledge of curriculum planning and development and delivery processes  
  • Knowledge and understanding of budgets and accounting practices 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Experience with employee supervision, including coaching, performance management, and corrective action 
  • Ability to conduct effective training and presentations 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in nursing, health-related professions, or education
  • Minimum of five (5) years full time equivalent experience in adult education, administration, and/or organizational leadership

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Administrative, organizational leadership, or teaching experience in higher education 
  • Experience working with accrediting organizations
  • Experience in a health-related career
