Overview
Primary Function: To provide encouragement to complete high school, and to
promote post-secondary education to potential first generation college
graduates. Works 100% of the time with program. UB is a TRIO program.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Two years of academic, career, and personal counseling particularly with the program eligible population.
2. Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in counseling, the behavioral sciences or closely related field.
Characteristics Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides support, guidance, and direction to students in a variety of situations and environments.
2. Advises students in areas of admissions requirements, program requirements, admission status and the transfer of credit from other institutions.
3. Audits applicant files for completeness and accuracy; contact students for more information as necessary.
4. Counsels and provides advice to students regarding course selection and scheduling to ensure that program requirements, as well as future goals and objectives, are met.
5. Maintains student academic files; monitor student progress and achievements; identify academic and related problems, and provide guidance and advice as warranted.
6. Serves as a liaison between students and the community in an attempt to equate and meet the needs of both groups.
7. Refers students to appropriate outside community agencies as for guidance and support; coordinate internal support services including tutorial, interpreting and note taking support.
8. Advises students regarding course work needs in order to meet educational program requirements and achieve individual long-term career goals.
9. Interacts effectively with students who have different cultural and social backgrounds.
10. Provides information about various types of financial aid, and provide assistance with the completion of applications for financial aid.
11. Serves on a variety of committees and task forces, researches and develops recommendations related to programmatic.
12. Coordinates with CMS schools and other community, governmental and social service entities to maintain supplemental services for program participants.
13. Makes periodic adjustments in project activities as necessary to fulfill objectives adequately and completely.
14. Supervise Teachers, Tutors and summer staff (residential staff and teacher/tutors; Part time teachers/ tutors
15. Maintains record keeping systems for projects, monitor activities, and performance as required.
