Overview
Académie Lafayette, a K-12 French immersion public charter school in Kansas City, Missouri, is looking for a General Maintenance person. The School General Maintenance person is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the school's three buildings, facilities, and grounds. This position involves addressing both routine maintenance and immediate repair needs, contributing to a positive and conducive learning environment for students and staff.
Status of Position
This is a full-time position with Académie Lafayette. This is a non-exempt position pursuant to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Reporting
The School General Maintenance person reports to the Director of Operations.
Responsibilities
- Facility Maintenance:
- Identify and address maintenance issues related to plumbing, electrical systems, lighting, doors, windows, and other structural components.
- Perform minor repairs to walls, ceilings, and floors as needed.
- Conduct routine inspections of school buildings, classrooms, and common areas.
- Groundskeeping:
- Ensure outdoor areas are safe and well-kept.
- Monitor and report any issues with playground equipment or outdoor structures.
- HVAC and Environmental Systems:
- Regularly inspect and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
- Replace air filters and address minor HVAC issues to ensure a comfortable learning environment.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Monitor and address safety hazards promptly, such as loose handrails, slippery floors, or damaged equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and report any concerns to the appropriate authorities
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Maintain and repair school equipment, as assigned.
- Keep an inventory of tools and equipment, while ensuring they are in good working condition.
- Perform basic automotive maintenance and repairs.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond quickly to emergency maintenance situations, such as leaks, power outages, or other urgent issues.
- Assist in coordinating maintenance efforts during school breaks or vacation periods.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalant
- Proven experience in general maintenance, preferably in an educational or institutional setting
- Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
