Overview
This person is responsible for providing substitute/temporary specialized health care services for school staff and students in order to maintain a safe and healthy school environment as well as promoting the value of wellness in the school and community.
Status of Position
This is an on-call as needed position with Académie Lafayette. This is a non-exempt position pursuant to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Reporting
Substitute Nurse's report to the campus/building principal.
Responsibilities
- Assessing the health needs of the whole school community and developing a health plan
- Providing confidential health services for individual children;
- Supporting, advising, counseling (with the support of the social worker), and referring children experiencing mental health problems, such as depression;
- Coordinating immunization programs and documentation;
- Producing individual health plan for children with disabilities or long-term conditions; participate in IEP team and 504 plans;
- Providing training for school-based staff to support children with health care needs, such as asthma, diabetes or epilepsy, and contributing to PSHE curriculum;
- Providing advice for parents and school staff on childhood illnesses and the management and control of infectious diseases;
- Performing annual health screening;.
- Promoting healthy lifestyle by addressing: exercise, healthy eating, smoking, drug, and alcohol abuse
- Addressing issues of mental health and well-being, including depression and bullying;
- Handling matters of sexual health and relationships as well as teenage pregnancy;
- Organizing, communicating, monitoring and reviewing fire, tornado, intruder and other emergency preparedness drills
- Collecting and reporting monthly data on student visits and injuries
- Other duties as assigned by building principal
Qualifications
- R.N. or L.P.N. with current Missouri license
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and respond to emergencies
- Self-starter with ability to work independently and with a high level of efficiency
Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands
- Needs to move about within the campus as necessary
- Occasional standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing
- Occasionally requires lifting up to 25 pounds
Other Requirements
- All substitutes are required to be registered with the Family Care Safety Registry and perform a MACHS federal and state background check.
