Special Education Coordinator

The Academy for Precision Learning (APL) is an innovative and transformational K–12 independent school that empowers neurodivergent students. Our model integrates customized curriculum, embedded clinical supports, and small, intentionally structured classrooms to meet each learner where they are. As an approved Nonpublic Agency (NPA), we partner with school districts across the region to serve students with autism and related learning differences through a strengths-based, relationship-centered approach.
POSITION OVERVIEW
APL is seeking a Special Education Coordinator who is passionate about inclusive education, deeply knowledgeable about special education law and practice, and eager to support both students and staff in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
This leadership role is responsible for ensuring that all special education services at APL are high-quality, compliant, and aligned with the individualized needs of students. The Special Education Coordinator will coordinate and support a team of special education teachers, collaborate closely with clinical and academic staff, and serve as a primary liaison with public school districts and families.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Leadership & Staff Support
- Coach, oversee, and support special education teachers across elementary, middle, and high school
- Facilitate regular collaboration between instructional and clinical teams
- Lead professional development in areas such as specially designed instruction (SDI), IEP goal development, and inclusive practices
- Provide real-time coaching, modeling, and feedback to improve instructional outcomes
IEP & Compliance Oversight
- Monitor IEP timelines and ensure procedural compliance in collaboration with public school districts
- Review, support, and co-develop IEP goals and service minutes in alignment with student needs and APL's programming
- Oversee documentation and progress monitoring systems, ensuring fidelity and accuracy
- Attend and facilitate IEP meetings as needed, representing APL’s model and services with professionalism and clarity
Family, District & Team Collaboration
- Serve as a point of contact for district case managers, related service providers, and family members
- Support ongoing communication and relationship-building with families of students with IEPs
- Partner with the Student Support Team (SST) to help problem-solve for students with complex needs
- Contribute to school-wide planning to ensure programming is responsive, inclusive, and aligned with best practices
QUALIFICATIONS
- WA State Special Education Experience in Teaching in a leadership, coaching, or supervisory role preferred
- Deep knowledge of IDEA, state/federal special education law, and IEP development
- Experience with diverse learners, including those with autism, behavioral needs, and complex learning profiles
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to navigate nuanced conversations with clarity and empathy
- Commitment to disability justice and neurodiversity-affirming practices
- Fingerprint clearance through OSPI and background check
