What are the responsibilities and job description for the Science Teacher - Grade 6 position at Academy for Science and Design?
The Academy for Science and Design (ASD), New Hampshire's award winning STEM-focused public charter school, is seeking a full-time sixth grade science teacher.
At the Academy for Science and Design, we believe in cultivating a strong sense of curiosity and inquiry in our students. As the Sixth Grade Science Teacher, you will be an essential part of this mission, encouraging students to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and think creatively. You will also work collaboratively with other teachers and staff to integrate technology, interdisciplinary connections, and real-world applications into your teaching.
In sixth grade science, students explore foundational concepts that prepare them for advanced biology and chemistry studies. The curriculum covers cellular biology, plant and animal reproduction, thermodynamics, weather and climate, scientific method, and others. Through hands-on learning experiences and inquiry-based tasks, students connect scientific concepts to real-world applications. Students engage with current scientific developments and participate in laboratory activities that develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Under direction of the Dean of Science & Engineering, this position will design creative and engaging lessons, projects and classroom activities. Ideal candidates will have science teacher 5-12 certification and middle school teaching experience. The best candidates will also have a passion for the STEM education and a gift for relating to middle school students.
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
- A bachelor's or master's degree in history, science, education or a related field
- A valid teaching certification and/or relevant teaching experience is preferred
- Strong subject matter expertise and a passion for teaching and learning
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
