What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Math Teacher (Full or Part-Time) position at Academy High (Champaign-Urbana)?
Academy High is an independent, non-sectarian, non-profit college preparatory day school serving students in grades 9-12. Founded in 2017, the school has grown each year and now serves a dynamic, engaged community of approximately 50 learners, with year over year enrollment growth. We seek a full-time Math Teacher to join our faculty for the 2025-2026 school year. This role primarily focuses on mathematics instruction while offering the opportunity to other STEM electives, depending on experience and interest. This position can be scaled to be part-time for the right candidate. This is an annually contracted position that is slated to begin July 1, 2025.
- Teach a four year sequence of math courses, tentatively scheduled to include two semesters of Geometry, Advanced Algebra, Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry, one semester of Discrete Math or Statistics, and one semester of Calculus.
- Teach STEM electives based on expertise and interest.
- Foster a classroom atmosphere where students are encouraged to explore ideas, take risks, and build the skills necessary for problem-solving and independent thinking.
- Collaborate closely with school administration to continuously improve curriculum design and teaching strategies, ensuring that all students are challenged and supported.
- Assess and evaluate student progress through meaningful, growth-oriented feedback.
- Work outside of class hours with students, offering additional support through office hours.
- Participate in essential school activities such as faculty meetings, student-parent-teacher conferences, student advising, club sponsorship, and support of school functions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related STEM field; Master’s degree preferred.
- One year of teaching experience in a middle school, high school, or college setting (including student teaching).
- Ability to integrate technology and active learning strategies into the classroom.
