Primary Purpose:
Oversee various elements of the High School Football program, including player development, scheduling opponents, and training and mentoring members of the coaching staff. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong working knowledge of University Interscholastic League rules/guidelines
Experience:
3-5 years as Head Coach or Coordinator at the secondary level preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Planning
- Direct and manage the district's football program and facilities.
- Implement physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation and verify each athlete’s eligibility.
- Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge the football program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
- Plan necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of department goals.
Athletic Events
- Prepare and approve all interscholastic game schedules.
- Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town athletic events.
- Work with the Athletics Director and athletic booster club, including fundraising, concession stands, and game-day programs.
- Collaborate with district leadership to support the implementation of athletic operations, including but not limited to ticket sales, police and first responders, game officials, game announcers, gate/clock workers, and ensure overall preparedness of all stadiums, gymnasiums, and other athletic-related facilities and parking.
- Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all athletic equipment.
- In collaboration with Middle and High School Principals, plan, organize, and supervise all athletic award programs, scholarship signings, and recognition ceremonies to celebrate student-athlete achievements and milestones.
Student Management
- Implement district student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletic programs, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct, Student Handbook, and Extracurricular Code of Conduct in order to maintain a safe and legal operating environment.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences on vital issues with administrators, parents, students, and staff.
- Implement the policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education, UIL, and local board policy in the area of extracurricular.
- Promote the achievements of student-athletes aspiring to compete at the collegiate or professional level beyond high school.
Budget and Inventory
- Collaborate with leadership to to support the management of the football budget, ensuring resources are used effectively and efficiently.
- Compile reports and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
- Initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
- Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend disposal and replacement of equipment when necessary.
Personnel Management
- Utilize effective methods and processes to achieve conflict-resolution and maintain stable, positive social relationships.
- Hold necessary staff meetings to discuss goals, progress, and any issues or concerns, ensuring everyone is aligned and informed.
- Encourage and facilitate teamwork and collaboration among athletic department staff to enhance communication and efficiency.
- Develop and implement policies that support work-life balance for athletic department and campus staff, reducing burnout and promoting overall well-being.
- In collaboration with the Athletics Director and campus principals, recruit, select, train, and supervise all athletic department personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
- Maintain documentation to evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
- Provide professional development training options and/or improvement plans to promote a growth-mindset among employees.
Community Relations
- Articulate the district’s mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and solicit its support in realizing its mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of district and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
- Support athletic booster club activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Crowd control within the campus, stadiums, gymnasium, and/or other athletic facilities.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of coaches and event staff.
- Demonstrate a sincere commitment to identifying, preparing, and mentoring future leaders within the athletic department.

Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic equipment, buses, trucks, vans, standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED); frequent driving, including long distances
