TITLE: Paraprofessional
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Passing score (450) on the ParaPro Exam, preferred
JOB GOAL: Under the supervision and direction of the Special Education Teacher; the Special Education Paraprofessional provides assistance in performing a variety of tasks relating to the behavioral and instructional needs of students in a classroom setting. This is an entry-level position to provide support to students at ACE.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 11 Month
EVALUATION: Annually
COMPENSATION: 11-Months Hourly DOE
DUTIES:
- Obtain and maintain CPR and CPI certification
- Implement behavior strategies in alignment with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
- Perform job responsibilities consistently use time wisely and adhere to policies as outlined in the ACE Employee Handbook
- Maintain professional conduct and appearance
- Demonstrate competence in areas of responsibility
- Complete and submit all forms, report, documentation, and training by required dates and in accordance with ACE policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by the administration.
- Mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
- Ability to communicate with co-workers and other stakeholders in a courteous and professional manner
- Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work as part of a classroom team to support academic instruction and behavior plans.
- Execute supplemental support of academic lessons as directed by the teacher. These may include supporting independent work, special projects, teaching a lesson to a small group
- Follow tier one behavioral supports and behavior plans with supervision and support
- Assist students in participating in classroom routines, transitions and self-care tasks (as necessary)
- Collect data on behavior and academics as directed
- Work in assigned classroom for the year and be willing to substitute in another classroom when needed
- Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, books, materials and facilities.
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school culture, rules and regulations
- Facilitate positive social interactions between the students in the classroom.
- Approach situations with optimism and perseverance
- Obtain and maintain CPI certification
- Implement behavior strategies in alignment with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
- Strong adherence to policies as outlined in the ACE Employee Handbook
- Maintain professional conduct and appearance
- Other duties as assigned by the administration.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain professional personal appearance as guided by ACE adopted dress code
- Attend work regularly; report on time; and provide advance notice of need for absence
- Complete work efficiently and accurately (with few/no errors) within deadlines without supervision, such as:
- Data Collection
- Perform job responsibilities consistently, use time wisely, plan properly, take care of materials and equipment as outlined in the ACE Employee Handbook
- Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance
- Ability to communicate with parents, co-workers and professional contacts in a courteous and professional manner
- Attend scheduled meetings and professional development series
- Maintain professional conduct and remain open to suggestions, innovative ideas; receive and apply feedback from coachings
- Demonstrate competence in areas of responsibility
- Complete and submit all forms, report, documentation, and training by required dates and in accordance with ACE policies and procedures
- Mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
- Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
- Obtain and maintain CPI and CPR certification
- Other duties as assigned by administration
