Job Summary

The Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP) seeks an on-site Mathematics Summer School Teacher from June 16th - July 17th, 2025, 8 am - 1 pm, Monday to Friday. Under the supervision of the Summer School Director, the Teacher will plan and implement a Mathematics course. The curriculum will strongly focus on student achievement through an accelerated instructional model.

This individual wants to make a positive impact on the lives of OLP students by upholding and communicating the school mission, philosophy, and core values while modeling behavior that inspires excellence and enthusiasm. The Teacher will help students learn and grow to become young women of heart, faith, and courage in the spirit of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

The preferred candidate will have a depth of content knowledge that equips the candidate to teach a summer school course that can include Algebra 1, Algebra 2 or Geometry class, while also having the skills required to teach students at various grades and levels.

Educators applying should have experience with teaching high school Mathematics courses. Desirable skill sets include being well-versed in various forms and uses of technology including the use of Google for Education tools, Learning Management Systems (LMS), Student Information Systems (SIS), and emerging learning technologies. Applicants must show a willingness to include and support diverse student learners; teach curriculum aligned with our OLP mission; instruct using pedagogy centered around girls’ unique learning styles and how they learn best.

General Teacher Responsibilities

  • Implement the OLP curriculum for a high school Mathematics course.
  • Provide instruction aligned with the OLP Mathematics department’s goals and objectives and the assigned course of study.
  • Provide learning experiences (i.e., individual, small group, and whole class instruction) throughout the course in a classroom environment that ensures student achievement.
  • Differentiate curriculum, instruction, and assessment to meet the learning needs of all students with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Partner with parents and guardians in their children’s education and use technology (e.g., PowerSchool, Schoology) to communicate about student progress and achievement.
  • Collaborate with Administration, the Summer School Director, and fellow teachers throughout Summer School as it pertains to the curriculum.
  • Regularly assess, evaluate, and report on student progress and achievement throughout the summer inclusive of progress reports and report cards.
  • Support students through scheduled office hours outside of classroom time.

Essential Skills/Qualifications

This position requires a thorough understanding of classroom instructional principles and practices, a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, self-motivation, organization and familiarity with the mission of OLP. In addition, the ideal candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • Single Subject Teaching Credential (CA preferred in Single Subject Mathematics).
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA) (required), Master’s Degree (preferred) in Mathematics.
  • Previous teaching experience (desired)
  • Experience working with high school students
  • Passionately and effectively teach female high school students
  • Possess relevant computer and technology skills
  • Be motivated to learn and possess flexibility in a changing environment
  • Possess knowledge of evolving instructional pedagog
  • Passion for teaching mathematics and differentiating for a variety of diverse learners
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Possess a student-centered nature with strong collaborative and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job the Teacher is regularly required to be inside the classroom and be mobile to, from, and within the campus environment. The Teacher will need to maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, training, and other work-related events. The Teacher may be required to conduct trips to locations other than the campus facility to attend training, workshops, or other school-related events. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Teacher to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Upon hiring you will be required to submit proof of current (within 60 days) negative TB test or TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire, Background Clearance through LiveScan*, Valid CA Driver’s License, and provide all official transcripts.

This is a Temporary Seasonal Summer School Faculty Position.
