Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter Public School (APR) is a tuition-free, public charter school offering a rigorous, college preparatory program in Grades 5-12 to 540 students from Boston. For 25 years, APR has empowered diverse learners (90% students of color; 11% English Learners; 25% on IEPs) of all racial and ethnic backgrounds to achieve their full intellectual and social potential through high-quality academic and enrichment programs to promote college and career exploration, cultural immersion, and community service. Our supportive and inclusive community actively counters patterns of inequity through dynamic learning partnerships between staff, students, and families. About The Position

The Academy of the Pacific Rim seeks a School Culture Manager to support the work of building a culture of achievement through the implementation of proactive and reactive school culture systems. The School Culture Manager will work in collaboration with the Assistant Principal of culture to build strong relationships with staff, students, and families, ensure that school culture systems are executed with fidelity, and model a culture rooted in high expectations and belief in students as achievers.

This is a full-time, in-person position.

Primary Responsibilities:

Build relationships with staff members, students, and families

  • Establish caring, trusting relationships with students through visible, high-expectations leadership
  • Serve as the liaison for families regarding student/family questions and or concerns
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Culture and the Director of Enrollment and Family Engagement, coordinate family-facing community events
  • Establish caring, trusting relationships with staff members and provide feedback in support of collective ownership and facilitation of school-wide processes
  • Connect with new APR students and ensure that student onboarding is thoughtful, positive, and informative
  • Lead student support groups as needed for students in need of social-emotional support and/or interventions

Support with the development and execution of the school-wide joy cadence

  • Plan and execute student celebrations that center APR’s core values and student academic growth and achievement
  • Maintain hallways visuals that communicate the APR’s mission, vision, and values as well as a belief in students' inherent genius
  • Co--plan and co-facilitate community meetings that build a shared sense of community and pride
  • Plan and co-facilitate Dragon Circles that build students’ understanding of core values and critical consciousness
  • Analyze and respond to data to ensure that students across various groups are regularly recognized and celebrated for their accomplishments
  • Support in the planning and implementation of quarterly earned joy events

Ensure the effective execution of school-wide proactive and responsive culture systems

  • Support the development of staff’s shared understanding and commitment to school-wide culture systems and procedures through high-quality adult learning experiences
  • Provide feedback to teachers and staff members on the consistent implementation of reactive and responsive culture systems
  • Lead the predictable celebration of student achievements with members of the school community including students, families, and staff members
  • Participate in the efficient, thorough investigation of high-level incidents including Level 3 incidents, bullying, harassment, ect
  • Regularly communicate with families around Level 2 breakdowns in community expectations
  • Monitor hallway transitions and ensure that hallway transitions are smooth, orderly, and quiet
  • Work with the Principal, AP of Culture, and Director of School Operations to ensure that common spaces are clean and orderly, and reflect the school's mission, vision, and values
  • Establish systems of accountability to ensure that teachers are regularly communicating with families around Level 1 breakdowns in community expectations
  • Support students in the effective completion of restorative conversations, close-the-loop conversations, and accountability projects
  • Ensure that the reflection room is reflective of high expectations, predictable systems, support, and accountability. Model these systems and routines accordingly
  • Lead mid-day and after-school reflection for students

The ideal candidate has:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching
  • An unwavering belief in and commitment to high academic achievement for all students
  • An ability to manage time when presented with multiple projects and varied deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; models clear, compelling messaging to various audiences
  • Possesses high emotional intelligence to build and sustain productive and affirming relationships, especially across lines of difference
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and build systems where there is opportunity for systems to be built
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
