Middle School Intervention Specialist
Beginning June 2, 2025
MissionTo inspire and empower students qualifying for need-based scholarships to become future community leaders through a rigorous middle school program coupled with ongoing graduate support.
The School
The Academy Prep Center of Tampa (APT) is a tuition-free private middle school that exclusively serves students in grades 5 through 8 who come from traditionally underserved communities, providing them the access and opportunity to excel in a demanding academic program, followed by eight years of intensive graduate support through high school, college, and into their careers.
Like all APT faculty members, the successful candidate should be a servant leader committed to living the school's mission by inspiring students to reach their full academic and personal potential and positively contribute to the life of the school community.

The Tampa campus is located minutes from Ybor City, Channelside, and the recently developed Water Street, vibrant neighborhoods with an active nightlife scene and diverse restaurants and shops. Close to numerous green spaces, pristine beaches, and sports/entertainment venues, Tampa has something for everyone.
Responsibilities
- Utilize data to develop lesson plans/instructional materials in reading and mathematics to meet the needs of students performing below grade level.
- Facilitate academic intervention sessions with students falling below grade level based on individual and group needs.
- Oversee standardized testing (NWEA MAP Growth) three times annually.
- Utilize testing data to make evidence-based instructional decisions and summarize findings for the faculty.
- Oversee the summer implementation of IXL in reading and mathematics for all students.
- Manage admissions testing between January and May.
- Review existing IEP/504 plans and establish reasonable accommodations for students with learning differences.
- Assist with afternoon study hall.
- Manage and coordinate student support plans in partnership with the Student Support Team.
- Attend one Saturday field trip each semester.
- Participate as a representative of APT in school fundraising events as needed. These events may take place on select evenings or weekends.
- Attend school-wide programming (e.g., Spelling Bee, Spring Showcase) to support our students and colleagues.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Skills, and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree required, experience in academic intervention/support a plus.
- Experience supporting students with complex learning needs related to literacy, math, executive functioning, and processing struggles.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization and record-keeping skills.
- A successful track record of working effectively with various constituents, including students, faculty, staff, parents, donors, and alumni.
- Broad and deep knowledge of traditional and emerging curricular and pedagogical trends and current thinking about best practices in teaching and learning.
