JOB SUMMARY : We are seeking a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to provide timely and effective pre-hospital basic life support care and transportation for individuals who are sick or injured. This role must adhere to local, state, national, and Acadian Ambulance standards of practice.
EQUIPMENT :
The EMT will work with a variety of essential equipment, including ambulances, stretchers, spinal immobilization gear, radios, suction devices, intravenous fluid therapy devices, and more.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The following functions are essential to this position :
- Perform thorough patient examinations for signs and symptoms of illness or injury and assist medical personnel as needed.
- Administer prompt and efficient basic life support care within certified protocols during transport.
- Carefully transport patients to and from the ambulance.
- Ensure safe and efficient delivery of patients to medical facilities.
- Accurately document patient conditions and treatments on EMS reports while gathering required non-medical patient information.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintain equipment to guarantee all tools are operational and in good condition.
- Ensure the ambulance and equipment are ready for service after each transport.
- Stay knowledgeable about the proper use of all basic life support equipment.
- Report and document equipment repairs as necessary.
- Control the patient's environment and actions of bystanders when necessary.
- Safely operate the ambulance adhering to driving guidelines in both emergency and non-emergency scenarios.
- Communicate effectively using electronic communication devices.
- Attend mandatory meetings as scheduled and participate in station responsibilities.
- Order and replenish supplies and equipment as necessary.
- Complete routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning the ambulance.
- Assist in training EMT-Basic students and new personnel as a Field Training Officer when designated.
- Fulfill any other duties assigned as necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : This role involves lifting patients, carrying equipment, climbing stairs, and working in various environments including emergency scenes and outdoors.
WORK ENVIRONMENT : The EMT may encounter hazardous situations such as electrical emergencies, vehicular accidents, industrial accidents, and severe weather conditions.
