Job Summary:
The Fitter will be responsible for fitting piping and/or structural components according to supplied drawings or field-verified dimensions, while adhering to ACI or customer welding procedure requirements. This role requires efficient, productive work and effective collaboration with helpers and welders to achieve project objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fit piping and/or structural components as per supplied drawings or verified field dimensions, while adhering to required welding procedures and customer specifications.
- Provide clear direction and oversight to assigned helpers and welders to ensure smooth workflow and project completion.
- Ensure punctual attendance and maintain a professional working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
- Take full accountability for the quality and productivity of your work.
Duties:
- Perform material take-offs on drawings to determine cut lengths.
- Utilize pipe/beam cutting machines, or if unavailable, use beveling machines to cut pipe to the required length. Collaborate with the Shop Foreman to assign personnel or issue cut lists when necessary.
- Communicate effectively with helpers to ensure appropriate materials and equipment are prepared for each project task.
- Secure parts using bolts, clamps, and tack-welds to hold them in position for welding.
- Verify all materials (e.g., pipes, structural components, fittings) to ensure they match the drawing specifications, including size, rating, grade, project number, and phase. Notify the Shop Foreman of any discrepancies.
- Confirm all measurements, checking for square and level, before releasing components to the welder.
- Record pre-weld dimensions on fitter drawings for documentation and quality control.
- Transfer heat numbers to drawings/cut sheets upon completion and submit them to the Shop Foreman.
- Tag all fabricated items with the correct job number, customer name, and piece number for accurate identification.
- Transfer heat numbers and job numbers to all material drop-offs and coordinate with the Shop Foreman to move materials to inventory or storage areas.
- Arrive to work on time and adhere to the scheduled hours consistently.
- Perform daily equipment inspections on tools such as torches, torch hoses, grinders, levels, tapes, etc., to ensure proper function and safety.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area by sweeping and tidying up as needed.
- Conduct and discuss a thorough Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before starting each task.
- Uphold a positive attitude and exhibit excellent customer service skills, both internally and externally.
Qualifications and Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of fabrication experience, including piping, vessels, and packaged equipment (preferred).
Key Competencies:
