Job Summary
The Gas Distribution Technician 3 is responsible for safely and efficiently operating Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) equipment and performing fusion processes for gas infrastructure projects. This role includes installing underground conduits, pipes, and other materials, while maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will be experienced in gas distribution operations, HDD equipment use, and polyethylene fusion techniques, with a strong focus on safety and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate HDD equipment to safely install conduits, cables, and pipes for gas infrastructure projects.
- Prepare job sites by reviewing plans, blueprints, and identifying utility locations.
- Set up drilling equipment and ensure a safe, efficient worksite.
- Perform pilot bores, reaming, and pullbacks according to project specifications.
- Operate mini excavators and other heavy equipment for underground installations.
- Use electronic locating equipment to avoid underground utilities and ensure safety compliance.
- Perform trenching and excavation for fiber optic and gas infrastructure installation.
- Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of HDD equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, as-built records, and project-related documentation.
Fuser Responsibilities
- Perform fusion of polyethylene pipes, including butt heat fusion, electrofusion, sidewall fusion, and socket fusion.
- Assist in the installation and connection of gas pipelines according to industry standards.
- Conduct inspection and quality checks on completed fusions to ensure compliance.
- Maintain and perform basic maintenance on hand and power tools used in fusion processes.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the gas industry.
- Prior experience with Vermeer drills and drill locating required.
- Knowledge and experience with polyethylene fusion processes.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction plans, blueprints, and utility maps.
- Understanding of underground utility locating practices and safety protocols.
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain HDD and fusion equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Valid driver/operator license required.
- Willingness to travel as required for job assignments.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
