What are the responsibilities and job description for the Courier phlebotomist position at Acadian Medical Center?
1. Transports specimens with care to ensure specimen integrity, proper temperature and prompt delivery.
2. Responds to stat pick-ups in a timely manner.
3. Maintains the Company vehicle appropriately per checklist.
4. Completes courier specimen pick-ups and delivery of reports for all specimens and supplies.
5. Completes the courier log with mileage, destination and description of courier run.
6. To communicate to the Technical Director and/or Lab Manager all circumstances that may affect quality of work or care in the Laboratory Departments.
7. Follows and adheres to all standard operating procedures and instructions as defined by the Byrd Regional Hospital Pathology & Laboratory Departments.
8. Follows all applicable CLIA and Joint Commission standards and regulations.
9. Wears department approved uniforms or scrubs for courier run.
10. Maintains the Company vehicle appropriately per checklist.
11. Organize and prioritize workload to avoid delays for patients, testing and/or reporting
12. Performs hands-on troubleshooting and practice follow through.
13. Works independently guiding oneself with little or no supervision.
14. Detailed oriented being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
15. Operates vehicle safely and follows all Louisiana State Motor Vehicle laws.
16. Inspects vehicle to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently. Reports any needed vehicle maintenance to Lab Manager.
17. Completes all appropriate clerical, admitting and requisitioning duties during non-courier times.
18. Completes dispatch of all final reports.
19. Demonstrates ability to be flexible and organized, functions well in stressful situations and able to prioritize skills.
1. Always records phlebotomy collection information into the Laboratory Information System with accurate attention to name of patient, collection time, and receive time.
2. Accurately and successfully performs venipunctures, following phlebotomy policies and procedures
3. Accurately and successfully performs finger sticks on adult and pediatric patients, following phlebotomy policies and procedures.
4. Accurately and successfully performs heel sticks on infants, following phlebotomy policies and procedures.
5. Maintains phlebotomy trays/area, supply area, and waiting room in a clean and orderly fashion.
6. Always follows patient identification policies and procedures. Labels samples in presence of the patient.
7. Performs general duties and task according to standards provided by regularly agencies for laboratory accreditation (i.e. TJC NPSGs, etc.).
8. Accurately collects chain of custody urine samples and completes collection documentation.
9. Always follows laboratory requirements for use of personal protection equipment.
10. Accurately demonstrates general computer skills necessary for order entry and medical necessity for lab order in laboratory computer system.
11. Willing checks outpatient orders for issue, fax results, and follow ups on patient collection issues.
12. Maintains adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and ensures that all supplies are viable before use in patient testing; assures rotation of reagent stock so that oldest materials are used first.
13. Demonstrates safe and effective use of all patient equipment and adheres to hospital policy regarding use of equipment with alarm systems.
14. Demonstrates knowledge of testing methods, products for explanation to patient; remains informed on all current reference test requirements.
15. Initiates the meeting of responsibilities without prompting and performs with minimal supervision.
16. Shares off-shift work as needed and is available to work in crisis situation.
17. Completes work in a timely manner and willing help co-works to complete section duties
18. Maintains effective working relationships with hospital employees, physicians, administrative staff and department managers.
