What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Respiratory Therapy position at Acadian Medical Center?
1. Plans, directs and supervises all technical aspects of services provided by the cardiopulmonary department. Assists and advises staff during difficult procedures.
2. Coordinates daily patient load/schedule. Reviews scheduled staff for skill level required. Anticipates department staffing needs for the shift and adjusts assignments. Cancels, adds or floats staff as necessary.
3. Effectively communicates staffing decisions, priorities for assigned tasks, delegated duties and completes department rounding.
4. Monitors staff for quality job performance such as accuracy and technical quality.
5. Develops and coordinates programs for continuous education and/or in-service training.
6. Provides leadership to ensure optimal delivery of patient care, available resources are used wisely and hospital policy is followed.
7. Defines performance objectives and metrics for the department. Incorporates quality improvement data and/or patient satisfaction data into departmental goals.
8. Collaborates with other departments to problem solve ongoing issues that impact department/organizations goals and/or patient care delivery.
9. Demonstrates knowledge of disciplinary policy and procedure. Counsels and documents underperforming or disruptive employees in a timely manner. Submits documentation to Human Resources.
10. Completes department (90 day) competency, and evaluations for new staff prior to completion of their 90 days. Submits the documentation to Human Resources by the required deadline.
11. Has an active role in the recruitment, interviewing and selection of staff for their department/unit.
12. Works as a staff Respiratory Therapist as needed.
13. Ensures staffing levels are met for department.
14. Participates in departmental and hospital Performance Improvement Activities.
15. Any other duties assigned as needed to help drive our Mission and abide by our organizations values.
