What are the responsibilities and job description for the Respiratory Therapist position at Acadian Medical Center?
1. Administers all therapy in a well-organized and competent manner with patient safety and patient education as a priority.
2. Verifies correct patient identification by using two patient identifiers with medical record label or document to make sure that each patient gets the medication and treatment meant for them.
3. Reviews patient medical records for pertinent orders and diagnostic information. Communicates with the nursing staff and physicians to assure appropriate patient care.
4. Assess each patient for age appropriate individual needs that includes education, medication, treatment effectiveness or adverse effects, and documentation of patient evaluation, care and response to therapy.
5. Knows and demonstrates in the steps to be taken in the event of adverse reactions according to policy and procedure.
6. Responds to emergency situations such as Rapid Response Team, Codes, STAT calls immediately and performs in a calm and professional manner.
7. Maintains competent skills in the administration of oxygen therapy and respiratory medications and treatments.
8. Maintains competent skills in diagnostic procedures as required for specific job duties. ( EKG, Stress Test)
9. Maintains good knowledge and recognition, interpretation, and documentation of signs and symptoms of respiratory dysfunction in geriatrics, adults, adolescents, pediatrics, and neonates.
10. Demonstrates appropriate hand cleaning guidelines and infection control procedures for the prevention of the spread of infections by following the facility's Policies and Procedures.
11. Cleans, decontaminates, sets up , and troubleshoots ventilators
12. Assures that all durable equipment is returned to the department and stored properly when not in use and Assists with maintaining adequate durable and disposable equipment and supplies by monitoring and notification of needs.
13. Maintains work area in a clean, organized method.
14. Attends work as scheduled and on time
15. The Respiratory Therapists communicates with department associates, hospital staff, and physicians to assure a high standard of patient care. Works together with other members of the healthcare team to fulfill the organizations mission and goals.
16. Notifies the proper authority of critical situations, accidents, and departmental needs.
17. Maintains competency in blood gas sampling and blind proficiency studies.
18. Performs equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation and Quality Control of Blood Gas analyzers.
19. Documents and reports critical value of tests within policy time frame.
20. Any other duties assigned as needed to help drive our Mission and abide by our organizations values.
