Western is aimed to provide solutions and ISP services for all sectors and sections in Afghanistan.

Job Description

  • Lay, pull, and secure fiber optic cables in trenches, ducts.
  • Install conduit systems, splice enclosures, and terminal boxes.
  • Perform fusion splicing/mechanical splicing of fiber cables to minimize signal loss.
  • Terminate fiber strands into connectors (e.g., SC/APC, LC) for central office and customer connections. 5. Install optical network terminals (ONT’s), distribution hubs (FDH), and splice closures.
  • Mount and configure network hardware (e.g., splitters, patch panels).
  • Use OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer), power meters, and light sources to test signal strength, loss and continuity.
  • Validate end-to-end connectivity from the central office to customer premises.
  • Diagnose and repair fiber breaks, faulty splices, or network outages.
  • Resolve issues related to signal degradation or equipment malfunctions.
  • Assist in digging trenches, directional drilling/bore for cable routing.
  • Follow safety protocols for underground utilities (e.g., power, water lines).
  • Restore work areas after installation (e.g., backfill trenches, repair landscapes).
  • Ensure minimal disruption to public spaces and private properties.
  • Adhere to company safety policies.
  • Report hazards (e.g., exposed cables, unstable trenches) to supervisor.
  • Follow local building codes, environmental regulations, and telecom standards during installations. 18. Document splice points, cable routes, and test results using GIS mapping tools.
  • Update as-built drawings to reflect actual installations.
  • Log equipment failures, safety incidents, or deviations from project plans.
  • Work under the supervision of FTTH site implementation supervisor.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and utility crews.
  • Assist with ONT installations at customer premises and explain basic functionality.
  • Address minor customer concerns during installations.

Job Requirements

  • Qualification:
  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications or a related field.

Certification in fiber optic installation (e.g., FOA, CFOT) is a plus.

  • Experience:

Minimum 2–4 years of experience in fiber optic installation and maintenance.

Hands-on experience with FTTH network deployments, splicing, and testing.

Experience working with fiber tools and equipment (OTDR, power meters, fusion splicers).

  • Skills:

Strong knowledge of fiber optic cabling, splicing, and termination techniques.

Ability to interpret and work with network diagrams, schematics, and design plans.

Proficiency in fiber troubleshooting, OTDR testing, and signal loss analysis.

Hands-on experience in pole climbing, underground fiber laying, and customer premises installation.

Understanding of safety standards and best practices in fiber optic deployment.

Good teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Physical ability to work in outdoor environments and handle equipment.
