What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Editor position at ACBJ?
- Content editing: Edit news stories for print and digital platforms, ensuring accuracy, clarity and maximum impact. Go beyond basic copy editing to identify gaps, enhance business intelligence and craft compelling headlines. Proof print pages as part of weekly production cycle.
- Awards program management: Oversee awards programs from inception to completion in collaboration with the Events Department. This includes managing nominations, coordinating with judges and awardees, creating a vision with the photographer and designer and presenting on stage.
- Social media management and newsletters: Manage Business First's social media accounts, promoting relevant news stories and implementing best practices for engagement. Assist in producing regular email newsletters, including the Morning Edition, Afternoon Edition, The Beat, and breaking news alerts. Focus on creating engaging content and attention-grabbing headlines.
- Reporting and writing: Contribute to reporting and writing for a sophisticated business audience. This could range from cover stories for the weekly print publication to breaking news stories online.
- Content planning: Work with the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor to plan, assign and edit print content, sections and special publications. Work closely with the reporting team, photographers, designers and other staff to produce cohesive and engaging content.
- Strategy and growth: Participate in overall newsroom strategy and planning. Collaborate with the Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief to understand and respond to the pulse of Western New York's business community, driving audience growth and engagement.
- At least five years working as a reporter or editor, experience with a business audience preferred.
- Strong news judgment and a commitment to improving content across all platforms.
- Ability to stay organized and level-headed in a deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent editing, writing and communication skills
Compensation: $65,000-$75,000
