What You’ll Be Doing
- Providing employment law advice and counseling to CARFAX leadership and the Human Resources team on a broad range of issues, including recruiting, employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence, disability accommodations, wage and hour requirements, terminations, internal investigations, compensation, benefits, privacy, immigration and employee classification
- Drafting and refining employment-related documents and agreements to align with best practices, including offer letters, employment agreements, separation agreements, confidentiality agreements and policies that affect employees
- Advising on internal investigations, partnering with investigators, reviewing investigation debriefs and reports and advising on investigation processes and training programs
- Partnering with Human Resources on building processes for ensuring proper and consistent application of federal and state laws, rules and regulations as well as CARFAX policies, processes and procedures
- Supervising compliance with federal and state laws, rules and regulations and CARFAX policies
- Monitoring legislation, regulations, case law, government enforcement activities and emerging trends in labor and employment law to proactively provide advice to CARFAX leadership and the Human Resources team
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Currently licensed to practice law in Virginia or currently eligible to be admitted under a Virginia Corporate Counsel Certificate
- At least 10 years’ experience specializing in labor and employment matters, including both law firm and in-house experience, with significant and progressive responsibility
- Expertise in federal and state employment law required with experience in Canada strongly preferred
- Strong analytical skills and a practical and creative problem-solving approach
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers
- Proven ability to work in a demanding environment, both independently and as part of a team, with a hands-on attitude and a willingness to get things done
