As a Historically Black Graduate Institution, MSM has a deep commitment to serving members of the BIPOC community as well as the underserved in urban and rural populations.The next General Counsel should be driven by a commitment to meeting and serving MSM’s mission and scholars in executing this pivotal leadership role. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this role will aid in steering the organization through the complex legal landscape of non-profit management, charter school operations, and educational issues. The General Counsel will serve as a trusted strategic partner and advisor to the CEO and will assess risk on a continuous basis.This is an exciting time for the institution and the next Senior Vice President and General Counsel, who will be responsible for leading and managing legal strategy and enabling strategic business growth and expansion at MSM and its affiliates. Reporting to the President and CEO, this leadership role serves as a pivotal member of the executive leadership team and will oversee all aspects of legal affairs, including business strategy and growth, institutional governance, risk management, legal operations, and external business strategy and counsel relationships.Successful candidates will hold a JD from an ABA accredited law school; possess at least ten years of experience as an attorney, with at least five years’ experience as general counsel, or within the office of general counsel, in a complex integrated academic health center; be licensed or license-eligible to practice law in the state of Georgia; and have a strong understanding of medical educational standards and requirements, patient privacy law, patient rights, data integrity issues, research administration, and conflicts of interest. Ideal candidates will also demonstrate litigation leadership experience and / or Mergers & Acquisitions with corporate deal-making, have experience leading teams, and bring passion in line with MSM’s mission and vision for growth.Diversified Search has been retained by Morehouse School of Medicine to assist in this search process.
