Tech - Cytotechnology: 13 Weeks Duration
Cytotechnologists play a critical role in diagnosing diseases by examining cell samples under a microscope. They prepare and stain specimens, analyze cellular structures, and provide detailed reports to pathologists.
To excel in this position, strong attention to detail and expertise in cellular analysis are essential. The cytotechnologist must adhere to laboratory safety standards and maintain equipment to ensure accurate results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform specialized and technically demanding cytology examinations to determine pathological conditions.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and records following established accreditation guidelines and quality control standards.
- Process and prepare FNA ROSE specimens for examination, providing proper record keeping and labeling of slides and specimens.
- Accurately enter data and results within the laboratory information system.
- Maintain screening workload and quality assurance records.
- Serve as a technical resource and assist in investigating issues/concerns surrounding the daily operation of equipment and/or specimens.
- Communicate scheduling or technical concerns to operational and medical leadership.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain equipment.
- Prepare and maintain Cytology inventory by checking stock levels, anticipating supply needs, placing orders for supplies and verifying receipt of supplies.
- Collect data and prepare management reports of technological findings.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment, protecting patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
