The Virtual Preparatory Academy of West Virginia is a K-12 tuition-free online public school in the state of West Virginia. At VPA West Virginia, we empower students to be their best by enabling them to learn in ways that are right for them – using innovative technology at home, at their proper level, and at their own pace.
ACCEL Schools is seeking a Family Resource and Communication Coordinator. This position supports overall student success by partnering with staff members and families to identify and mitigate barriers to learning, connect families and students to local, state, and federal resources, and providing proactive and preventative services. Please note – while this is an online school position and all instruction occurs virtually, travel and face to face attendance will be required several times per year to support in person state testing and student events.
ELIGIBILITY: This position is open to residents of West Virginia.
About the Opportunity
- Work closely with Teachers, Administrators, Guidance Counselors, and Engagement Coaches, to identify external barriers to student learning and connect families and students to resources to address those barriers
- Facilitate intervention meetings with all appropriate stakeholders when students and families have complex needs that involve coordination of internal and external services
- Act as school liaison for contact with outside agencies such as Social Security, Children Youth and Family Services, Foster Care Services, Adjudication Facilities
- Serve as the McKinney Vento School Coordinator by being the subject matter and policy expert on education of homeless youth and all McKinney Vento requirements
- Create and maintain a process for identification of economically disadvantaged students eligible for additional supports and services
- Create and manage a referral process for services
- Organize statewide community events and activities including HS Graduation
- Organize parent groups to increase family engagement school wide
- Communicate school wide initiatives and updates via newsletters, Facebook, and other channels to ensure that all families are aware of events and initiatives
- Coordinate school wide trainings for students and families in collaboration with administrators, counselors, and other school staff
- Ability to pass required background check
- Performs all other job duties as assigned
- Travel to support required face to face state testing annually
- Perform other duties as assigned
About You
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, School Guidance Counselor, or related social service field
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency
- Ability to travel 20% of the time
- Ability to pass required background check
- Background working in education
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and exhibit sound judgment while maintaining that confidentiality
- Demonstrates a reliable, dependable, and trustworthy work ethic
- Ability to manage difficult or emotional situations
- Ability to make sound judgments after all available information has been gathered or communicated
- Demonstrates a mature attitude and insight into matters affecting department, self and / or school welfare
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks to meet deadlines consistently
- Customer service oriented
- Ability to learn new technologies and acquire new skills through independent study, professional training, and from more senior team members.
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
- Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks
