Position Title: Literacy Tutor
Reports To: Academy Director
Location: Marion County Acceleration Academy
Employment Type: Part-Time
Compensation: $20-$24 an hour
Benefits: 401(k) with up to 4% company match after 3 months of service
Job Description: MCAA seeks a passionate and dedicated Literacy Tutor to support students in developing and reinforcing strong literacy skills, including reading, writing, and comprehension. The ideal candidate will provide personalized instruction tailored to individual learning styles and needs for students grades 8-12.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree in English or a related field.
- Background Check: Demonstration of a clear state and federal criminal history
- Certification: Florida educator's license with a secondary English endorsement is REQUIRED for this position.

Job Responsibilities:
- Assess student reading and writing levels for gaps in foundational skills.
- Conduct one-on-one and/or small group tutoring sessions.
- Utilize existing instructional materials and techniques to enhance comprehension.
- Monitor and track student progress, adjusting strategies as needed.
- Create a positive and encouraging learning environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in teaching or tutoring, particularly in reading.
- Strong understanding of reading and writing development and effective instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, creativity, and a passion for helping students succeed.
- Basic knowledge of IEP, ESE and ELL accommodations, document assistance with annual goals, short-term objectives, benchmarks, and participate in the appropriate meetings
- Experience working in a non-traditional school setting and/or with youth who may be considered at-risk
