The Role
As a Science Teacher, you are a key learning resource for our students. You’ll work collaboratively to teach and support a competency-based, blended curriculum where students progress by demonstrating proficiency. Your role will help guide students toward high school graduation and post-secondary success by providing personalized instruction, support, and interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Student Enrollment & Engagement
- Support student recruitment and enrollment efforts.
- Help develop personalized learning plans tailored to each student’s needs.
Student Retention & Support
- Act as an advisor for assigned students, fostering communication and connection between the learner and support team.
- Monitor student attendance, academic progress, and overall well-being.
Instructional Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Science instruction in one-on-one and group settings.
- Monitor student progress toward completing courses and mastering content.
- Conduct formative and summative assessments to evaluate academic growth.
- Use data to make informed instructional decisions.
- Understand and apply Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Exceptional Student Education (ESE) accommodations, and English Language Learner (ELL) support strategies; document progress toward goals and participate in related meetings.
- Provide remediation and enrichment opportunities to meet diverse student needs.
- Collaborate in student data meetings, professional development sessions, and academy/community events.
Advocacy & Collaboration
- Work with support teams to develop learning pathways and behavior/transition plans for students.
- Engage in academy meetings and community outreach to foster a supportive environment.
- Perform other duties as needed to support student success and academy goals.
What We’re Looking For
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or a related field.
- License/Certification: Florida Secondary Science/Biology Certification (required)
- Experience: 2 years of teaching experience (high school math preferred).
- Skills: Strong communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on inclusivity and collaboration.
- Commitment: Passion for supporting students who have disengaged from traditional schooling and guiding them toward academic and personal breakthroughs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in non-traditional or alternative education settings, particularly with at-risk youth.
- Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
- Familiarity with behavior intervention strategies and alternative education models.
- Experience with Exceptional Student Education (ESE), English Language Learners (ELL), and behavior intervention strategies.
- Experience with competency-based learning, instructional coaching, or project-based education.
- Strong comfort with technology in educational settings.
