Overview

Behavior Technicians work as part of our Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention [EIDBI] team. This program provides medically necessary treatment to people under the age of 21 on Medical Assistance [MA] with autism spectrum disorder [ASD] and related conditions.

*To accommodate the schedules of the children and families we serve, evening and weekend hours are required for this position.

Responsibilities

Behavior Technicians provide direct client care through the application of Applied Behavior Analysis [ABA]. These interventions target the functional skills and core domains of people with ASD and related conditions using the principals of learning and behavior by:

• Providing intervention services in the comprehensive multi-disciplinary evaluation [CMDE] and identified in the person’s individual treatment plan.
• Participating in monitoring the person’s progress on goals and objectives and treatment outcomes.
• Collaborate with including client, parents caregivers, outside
  professionals, and other providers.
• Receiving required clinical supervision and intervention observation and direction as identified in the person’s ITP.

Qualifications

To qualify as a Level II Behavior Technician, a person must be employed by an EIDBI provider agency and meet at least one of the following sets of requirements:

1. Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in behavioral or child development science or a related field (e.g., mental health, special education, social work, psychology, speech pathology, occupational therapy, etc.), and meet at least one of the following requirements:

• Have at least 1,000 hours of clinical experience in the evaluation and treatment of people with ASD or a related condition
• Have completed the equivalent in graduate-level coursework at an accredited university (Note: Coursework must be documented in one of the following areas: ASD or related condition diagnostics, ASD or related condition treatment strategies or child development)
• Be a Board Certified assistant Behavior Analyst® (BCaBA®) from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board®, Inc. (BACB®)
• Be a registered behavior technician® (RBT®) from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board®, Inc. (BACB®)
• Be certified in one of the other treatment modalities recognized by DHS (See EIDBI Manual – Treatment modalities).

2. Meet all the following requirements:

• Be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university in one of the behavioral or child development sciences or a related field (e.g., mental health, special education, social work, psychology, speech pathology, occupational therapy, etc.)
• Receive observation and direction from a qualified supervising professional (QSP) or Level I treatment provider at least twice per month until meeting 1,000 hours of supervised clinical experience

3. Have both:

• An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a behavioral or child development science or a related field (e.g., mental health, special education, social work, psychology, speech pathology, occupational therapy, etc.)
• At least 2,000 hours of supervised clinical experience delivering treatment to people with ASD or a related condition (You can include hours worked as a mental health behavioral aide or an EIDBI Level III provider as required hours of experience).

4. Have at least 4,000 hours of supervised clinical experience delivering treatment to people with ASD or a related condition. You can include hours worked as a mental health behavioral aide, personal care assistant (PCA) or an EIDBI Level III provider as required hours of experience.

5. Be both:

• A graduate student in a behavioral or child development science or a related field (e.g., mental health, special education, social work, psychology, speech pathology, occupational therapy, etc.)
• Formally assigned by an accredited college or university to an EIDBI provider agency for clinical training with people with ASD or related conditions and receiving clinical supervision from a QSP affiliated with the agency.

6. Meet all of the following requirements:

• Be 18 years or older
• Be fluent in a non-English language
• Have completed the EIDBI Level III provider training requirements
• Receive observation and direction from a QSP or qualified Level I provider at least once per week until he or she meets 1,000 hours of supervised clinical experience.
