Team Chairperson
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience as a Special Education Teacher, Clinician, Related Service Provider, School Psychologist or Behavior Specialist
Master’s Degree, at a minimum, in the appropriate discipline or in educational leadership
Demonstrated skills in organizational development, planning, decision-making, and interpersonal and community relations.
REPORTS TO:Director of Student Services / Assistant Directors of Special Education
The Team Chairperson is responsible for the coordination of all activities and documentation necessary to ensure that students with special needs are met in accordance with state and federal law. The Special Education Team Chair assists the Director of Student Services and Assistant Directors with all operations in special education. Self reflection skills, data analysis competencies, and the ability to effectively collaborate with others are essential. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively with students, parents, colleagues and community members. Strong written and verbal communication skills and impeccable interpersonal skills are a must.
Facilitate Individual Education Programs (IEP) meetings and services as the chairperson of a team that ensures the implementation of Special Education regulations and mandates
Understands and implements federal, state, and local laws, policies, regulations, and procedures and protocols including the implications of liability and requirements of due process.
Ensures Extended Evaluations are conducted according to ACCEPT and district agreement, meets timelines, oversees production of standard assessments and data collection, and serves as liaison between Assistant Directors and Districts
Communicate, oversee and review the process, paperwork and reports of all 3-year evaluations and team meetings
Review progress reports for content, data, and compliance ensuring timely distribution
Coordinate with other administrators to develop annual team meeting calendar
Ensure staff are complying with all elements of IEPs, BIPs, FBAs, Health Plans, etc.
Participate in the coordination of student transitions: grade to grade; program to program; building to building; return to district; or, other placement
May collaborate to ensure all compliance issues are followed relating to restraints, student behavior, due process, restorative justice, discipline issues, manifestation determination reviews, communications and all DESE required restraint data as well as informing the Director of Student Services of incidents
Assists in Implementing annual class roster development process
Ensure program and student data collection is ongoing to measure performance and outcomes, with formal reporting to the Director of Student Services
Accountability reminders to Program staff to include set up calendar invitations for every staff member contributing to a student’s IEP OR EEs for dates they are due for review to the Assistant Directors
Emails within timeline standards prior to IEPs and/or annual review due date
Send draft IEP, BIP, etc. to district once approved by Assistant Director
Attend and chair annual Team meetings and others as necessary
Implement edits discussed at Team meetings for final
Send final IEP to districts once approved by AD
Send Extended Evaluations to the district once approved by AD
Download and archive progress reports and report cards after they are sent
Other Duties as assigned
