The Queen City Academy Charter School is Plainfield, New Jersey’s first charter school. QCACS serves scholars in grades K-10 and growing to K-12. Our mission is to create lifelong learners and equip staff with the opportunities to successfully shape and transform lives by cultivating learners that possess the ability to be critical-thinkers and demonstrate leadership skills required to continuously open new doors which create generational successes. Middle School ELA Teacher Position Overview 

All teachers at The Queen City Academy Charter School advance the mission, goals and educational  philosophy of the school by planning and facilitating learning activities and experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of students, while enabling students to develop  competencies, skills and disposition to function successfully in society. 

The Middle School ELA Teacher should be able to

 

  • Develop purposeful, rigorous, and engaging daily and long-term plans aligned to standards, and regularly revisit these materials
  • Submit necessary curriculum documents (e.g. scope and sequence, curriculum maps, lesson plans, reteach plans, intellectual preparation documents) as requested
  • Maintain the necessary records of student progress toward academic goals; meet deadlines for submitting data to other departments
  • Consult with departmental colleagues on curriculum support materials and planning to support intellectual preparation and classroom instruction
  • Maintain a productive, safe, and disciplined learning environment in which classroom values, teaching points, process charts, and student work are clearly displayed
  • Uphold all school policies and middle school specific policies (including but not limited to: student attendance, reporting of absence and lateness within a period, independent student transitions, assigned seats) within the classroom
  • Integrate feedback and goal-setting into lesson delivery
  • Provide the differentiation and accommodations needed for the growth and success of all students; go above and beyond to ensure that all students are meeting appropriate standards
  • Model strong written and verbal skills
  • Review and comply with guidelines of students’ IEPs, follow IDEA reporting requirements, and provide information about student performance and services received
  • Maintain positive relationships with and support the learning of all staff members
  • Appropriately give and receive feedback to/from students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration
  • Build and sustain partnerships with parents and families to keep families well-informed of student performance and progress
  • Fully participate in all school and grade-level meetings, designated school functions outside of school hours, and opportunities for individual and school-wide professional development

Qualifications 

The successful candidate will hold at minimum a Bachelor’s degree and certification as appropriate. The expectation is that all candidates hold at least a Certificate of Eligibility and QCACS leadership can provide guidance on obtaining full certification in the State of New Jersey. Candidates should be prepared to provide a copy of a valid New Jersey Certificate or proof of passing the required PRAXIS tests. Applicants must demonstrate cultural sensitivity, ability to  communicate with parents and students across lines of difference, have mastery of subject matter content, be a team player, hold high expectations of students and possess basic understanding of child development.
