Position Summary:
The Patient Translator/Advocate serves as a vital link between medical staff and patients with limited English proficiency. This role ensures accurate and compassionate communication during medical visits and supports patients in navigating the healthcare system.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide in-person or remote interpretation during medical appointments
Translate medical documents, instructions, and educational materials
Assist patients in understanding diagnoses, treatment plans, and prescriptions
Advocate for patients' needs and help connect them with community resources
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and clinic policies
Work collaboratively with healthcare providers, front desk staff, and case managers
Participate in cultural competency training and continuous improvement efforts
Qualifications:
Fluency in English andSpanish
Prior experience in a healthcare or social services setting preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge of medical terminology a plus
Empathetic, patient-centered approach to care
High school diploma or equivalent; certification in medical interpreting is a plus
Preferred Skills:
Ability to handle sensitive conversations with discretion and professionalism
Familiarity with local community services and resources
Experience working with diverse populations
