Certified Delaware & Maryland Flagger

Access Labor Service of Dover starting pay for all Certified Flaggers who drive is $17.00 an hour Also offering 10 dollars per person per job site in travel cost for employees who you transport to and from job sites.  

Access Labor Service of Dover starting pay for all Certified Flaggers who do not drive is $15.00 an hour, offering of $1.00 an hour to $16.00 an hour if you work Monday-Friday, have all your P.P.E and complete all job assignments with no issues.    

Urgently hiring for Certified Delaware and Maryland road flaggers. You must be certified! Having a Car is a BIG plus, but not a requirement as long as you are able to report to our main office. Having all your own equipment is a BIG plus but help with acquiring your own equipment is available if needed.

Job Summary:
Primary responsibility is to perform traffic control within worksites/zones for maintenance and construction projects. A flagger directs traffic for a road construction crew. Flaggers hold a large orange flag, which they use to help indicate to motorists to slow down, stop, and pass-through traffic/road. Flaggers often work in conjunction with other flaggers, with each standing at opposite ends of the construction area and coordinating traffic flow via communication, either by two-way radio or hand signals. Flaggers often work long hours in a variety of weather conditions that include snow, rain, extreme heat, and cold. Flaggers often stand for long shifts with few breaks. At the same time, they must remain alert to their surroundings and keep traffic moving while ensuring the safety of motorists, construction workers, and themselves.

A flagger must be very attentive to what’s going on around him/her. They must work well alone and as a member of a team. He/she should speak English as they need to relay traffic information to the public, other flaggers, construction workers, and/or to report incidents or accidents to law enforcement officials and their superiors. Flaggers should be professional and courteous at all times.

Flaggers must be able to:
  • Be alert at all times.
  • Do not stand with a group where you cannot be easily seen by approaching motorists.
  • Always stand while flagging/directing traffic.
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift.
  • Use proper hand signals with the STOP/SLOW paddle.
  • Never walk the work zone without proper gear on.
  • Do not leave your post until you are properly relieved.
  • Have an avenue of escape if approached by an errant or non-attentive vehicle.
  • Have your certification card in your possession while performing flagging duties.

Proper attire for Flagging:
  • Orange hard hat.
  • T3 High-visibility retro-reflective vest Flagging Vest.
  • T3 High-visibility retro-reflective Flagging Pants.
  •  Emergency whistle.
  • 2 Way Walkie Talkies.
  • Extra Batteries.
  • 24 by 24 retro-reflective Stop & Slow Sign.

Typical Work Environment:
The following points describe a typical working environment for a flag person.
  • Extreme heat & cold temperatures.
  • Rain, dusty conditions when milling the highway.
  • Stressful.
  • Controlling intersections.
  • Communication with other flaggers.
  • Large # of flaggers working together on a project.
  • High traffic areas: No sit-down lunch breaks. The crew doesn’t stop working for lunch.
  • Early start/Late quitting times.
  • Rainouts, 2-hour show-up time.
  • Bathroom breaks are limited and not all jobs have facilities.
  • No cell phones are permitted while working.
